This was our second stay in this hotel as a one night stop after arriving from France on the ferry. Nothing seems to have changed and you get what you pay for. The room was like a travel lodge type with the basic minimum but was clean and had everything you need for a one night stay. The wi-fi did not work in the room we were in. We looked at the restaurant menu but decided to eat out at a nearby fish and chips cafe. There was serious problem from noise and shouting from drunken people well into the early hours so take some earplugs if you want to sleep. The breakfast was help yourself to everything "English breakfast" but don't bank on getting a decent cup of tea as it is made in flasks and tasted stewed. The food was good especially the bacon. One change is the car park payment of £3.50 a night which is not mentioned in the online booking.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same from what other guests say. Makes no difference to the outside noise.

Had read the reviews before I left for our stay . Walked into the Hotel and almost walked out again , It was so dated , Curtains from the 70's room was clean but pictures we had seen looked better . certainly needs revamping . Shower didn t work and bath had crack in bath was old looking poss from 70's or before , Towel laying under toilet system collecting water from a drip . Food and 'Restaurant' was like being back at school , and Menu's again from 70's with sponge and chocolate custard as desert . Furniture in bar look so worn and tatty ready for the tip . The fire alarms went off at 07.30, and staff didn t seem to know what to do . took ages to get everyone out but no one taken control . The staff looked smart and friendly even though they didn t all speak English . The staff are what make this Hotel , and to be honest if it had a revamp it would be great place , but at moment I wouldn't return ,Corridors smelt of old stale smoke .

Room Tip: We had seaview , which was quite nice , however there are 12 floors to this hotel and we were on 9th...

We just spent a few days there and although the building is getting very tired and needs an overhaul we found the food to be good - if you like buffet style - and you could upgrade to waiter service. We had a room overlooking the bay which was very nice and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Some nice shops and other attractions around and we will certainly go there again. The one downside to the hotel is that is has smoking rooms and if you are unaware of this and don't smoke you could get a very smelly room. This did surprise us as we though all UK building were now non-smoking

Room Tip: If you are a non-smoker ask for a non-smoking room

Rooms shabby. Bathroom fittings broken. Loud piped music in corridor from 6 am. Noise from adjacent rooms. Smelly corridors. Broken glass on seats in bar. Awful food in Harbour Restaurant. Was like a works canteen. Always upgrade to Victoria Restaurant. Same food but cooked properly and presented well in nice surroundings. Car parking charges. Home of the booze cruise coaches so early morning noise and worse for wear travellers when they return. Don't bother going there.

Room Tip: Try another hotel

Arrived in the evening after a long journey from Manchester, Booking in was efficient and we were allocated a sea veiw room 130 on the first floor. First impressions were that it needed a complete refurb to bring it up to the 21st century. I suppose that you get what you pay for as this was a 4 day with National Holiday and only cost 99 pounds. We were advised by a friend who had done this trip earlier to upgrade from what I can only describe as the canteen to the Victorian Resturant at a cost of £5.00 per person per night. This we did and I recommend anyone visiting to do the same, It is more like a Good class Hotel Dinning room with very pleasant and attentive staff who welome you to your table and offer a drinks from the bar service, A very inpressive looking hotel from the outside but a tired hotel inside.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea veiw room and ask if you can upgrade to a premier room which we were told were a lot b...

I took my Mum away this weekend for a break. What a mistake! We couldn't eat the food it was terrible we found some gammon and salad eventually and dessert was jelly - in 41 yrs old - I don't want jelly! Everyone was laughing in shock at the appalling food. School canteen from the 70's!

The rooms we had had scaffolding outside (some sea view!) I touched the screen on the TV thick with grime, bathroom tiles missing, cracked sink, filthy doors and windows.

On top of this we had a fire - initially the fire alarm went off and over the tannoy in the corridor we were told false alarm. It went a second time and nobody knew what to do! No sign of staff! Eventually we went to find fire escape it was blocked by other people who couldn't get out they said it was blocked so at my own risk I took my mum back through the main hotel and we found our own way out but even the ground floor exit was concreted dead end! We saw 2 staff on main entrance. The was an actual fire on the second floor! People could have died! I'm so relieved everyone was ok but I swear I will be asking for a full refund and writing a full complaint. It was disgusting leaving older/disabled people out the front in their nightware with no communication no blankets!

The hotel doesn't deserve to be operating and I fear it's one of those places that won't be shut down until someone's seriously hurt.

Shame on you Burstins! Please don't use this hotel for your own safety I hope you see sense.

Overall good value: good room & facilities, mostly clean, staff helpful and most friendly, reasonable food, good entertainment

Room : 235 Facing harbour, £5 per head/night for sea view. Spacious, comfortable king sized bed, shower worked well after initially running hot water for a few minutes, plenty of fresh quality towels, passable small TV. Windows dirty on outside. Lots of litter/cigarette butts on reception roof below. Ours was not marked as a non smoking room, but did not smell of cigs at all. Pictures in room we changed from was of Marylin Monroe and the one we moved to ( 235 ) was of a reclining. naked and pregnant ? woman - how dreary - they could have used some of the many sea/ harbour/sailing pictures they have in the lounge area.

Lifts : 3 lifts – 2 of which are small and get very crowded with large no of guests, so you often have to wait ages for one to get on. Many guests struggled with their luggage on fairly narrow stairs.

Lounge/Bar area : lots of comfortable, though worn arm chairs. Plenty of gaming machines, snooker table, large TV, cash machine, Place kept very clean.

Main Restaurant Harbour View : spacious, but very busy. Tables cleared quickly and place kept very clean. Not a relaxing experience in the evening due to volume of people, unavoidable noise and bright lights. Pre entry hand gels which many guests used.

Victoria Restaurant: £5 per head per night and following day breakfast. Very pleasant décor, spacious, leather chairs, they light a candle for your table – far less crowded.
Carvery on Wednesday/Sunday and cheese and coffee are extra above main Restaurant. Staff welcoming and helpful, especially Hekman. General lighting could have been dimmed a bit in evening.

Food : Breakfast : good selection of cereals, tinned fruit only and cooked bacon, eggs etc . Dinner : good selection of salads and of main dishes including one fish item, and deserts, including one hot item, but beef on carvery night over cooked ( but turkey/ham fine ) and every night most vegetables cooked to death and lacking flavour.

Service : room kept very clean and main reception very quick with responses for items like extra pillows ( which we found in wardrobe ) extra shower gels, correcting TV poor viewing etc. Reception staff very friendly ( except for one officious sounding female ) and helpful which is a great credit to them bearing in mind the hundreds of guests they deal with per day.
