“Expect little”

We decided to stay here on a whim. It was a Saturday and fancied to get away for the day. We chose this place as Britannia hotels provide evening entertainment.

The hotel is very out dated and not clean. The room had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. The was lipstick on the cups and the dregs so someone's tea was still in another cup. The was a boiled egg under the bed!!!!! And tortilla chips in between the two twin beds.

Our stay included breakfast and dinner. The evening meal was fine had lasagne and salad and was ok. Breakfast on the other hand was not good. The sausages are famous I believe as they are cheap and nasty. Sugar for your tea was in those cafe style pourers which were clogged up with dirt.

The entertainment was the only thing stopping this place getting a 1 star. Although not brilliant it was fine. We enjoyed the bingo (quite expensive though). Man playing his guitar was ok and the singer at the end of the night was very good with swing style songs.

I would not return to this hotel and this has put me off staying with Britannia again. They seem to have some good hotels and some which need bulldozing and starting again!

Room Tip: Get drunk so you pass out and then you wont realise how bad the rooms are

just had five fantastic days at the grand burstin hotel with travel style, stayed in room 538 which is a twin premier room overlooking the harbour with a nice free bottle of wine which the wife really appreciated, the room was very clean and tidy, the food was excellent plenty of choice,s and eat all you want, the staff are very friendly a helpful, the entertainment on the night was excellent the two singers sean&chloe were top notch and should be on the t.v plus the two girl dancers were very good so i would highly recommend this hotel and travel style.

Room Tip: ask for a premier room its well worth it

The good...
It's a great location, city center, next to the beach and harbor. It was clean (except grimy with age). The staff were friendly, you know, like the crew of the Titanic were friendly and helpful, even as it was sinking, they knew they were going to die, so why not just keep calm and smile. The room is a good size. Window opens. If the place was done up, it would be a great hotel again.

The bad....
The hotel is in need of a complete refit, everything is worn out and broken. At breakfast (I am not kidding), a small section, around 8 ceiling tiles fell in, brought down by leaking water. There are leaks everywhere. The shower thing we had to hold down to fill the bath. The swimming pool, gym you have to pay for an extra £4.00 a person, this really annoyed me, as this was why we booked the hotel in the first place, I hate hidden charges...did I mention you got to pay £4.00 a day to park your car too? - Another hidden charge.

Stayed here on a groupon 2 night family break. £50 per room per night including half board.

Food awful but we planned to eat out anyway

Clean room and everything in room you would expect. Kettle, coffee, iron, hair dryer. No shortage of hot water

We wouldn't stay again but it exceeded expectations that we had.

You probably would get a better mattress in a travelodge. The mattress wasn't the best and was the factor that would stop me from rebooking.

We stayed in rooms 1616 and 1518 quiet and did not smell of smoke.

Great location for a bucket and spade break! Pullman pub (at top of old town) wonderful food and fairly priced for eating out at.

Good value for money but it is an old style hotel catering for budget holidays so set your expectations accordingly

Room Tip: 1518 1616 quiet and did not smell of smoke

Hotel is is really great, food is good, nothing wrong with breakfast, eggs bacon, beans sausage, fried bread, toast marmalade . Also a cold table, oh and porridge.main meals ,choice of fish or meat.salad table was brilliant.I was never, never ,going to the dessert table I'm fat enough , guess w hat fresh fruit was on offer every night and a different cake every night oops how did that cheesecake get on my plate. Lifts were fine, but the usual moans oh there too hot.,get a life. Bedrooms clean and towels fluffy and white ,complimentary shampoo and conditioner. My 4star hotel did not supply this. So folk go and enjoy your stay, wish I was with you

Didn't really know what to expect as it was only a stop over on the way to catch an early ferry from Dover - but it was very disappointing. There was nowhere to park at the hotel so we had to leave the car around the corner on the side of the road - which was a worry throughout the night. Reception staff were polite and helpful but the place was packed with string vest wearing lager louts hanging around the bar and outside areas making you feel very uneasy. We didn't venture into the bar (I think there was a pub singer being strangled at the time) and went straight to bed. The corridor on the floor to our room was had dirty dishes and glasses piled up in it and I was half expecting to come across a dead body. The room was dated but clean - and was obviously used for smoking. We didn't hang around in the morning and luckily the car was still there to get out of the place. There must be better places in the local area - so look carefully.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else
