We went on an exceptionally busy Saturday (Folkestone Airshow) so queues were long all afternoon but both cafe and bar staff were friendly, toilets were clean and properly supplied, cake (four different varieties sampled) was excellent. Very good indeed.

This has got to be the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at.the service was terrible, examples
Staff just walking past you and not serving.
Very long waits for foods and not told about this.
No fresh milk for hot drinks.
Food was of a cheap quality but priced at a higher price.
Tables just left for ages with rubbish and food all around you.
People asking for their money back because of waiting over an hour for their food, still not arriving but people who came in after getting their food, when people complained they were given different excuses.
Their were 6 in my party 4 of us had our food after 45 minutes the other two had to wait nearly another hour after complaining several times, all foods were ordered at the same time of a cost of nearly forty pounds.
When ordering food their was no fryed food, milk, baguettes the list goes on.
The coastal park is a excellant place to take the children and dogs, but take food with you .

I generally try to avoid leaving negative reviews as I sometimes think we are all too quick to complain and slow to compliment. However, I am hoping that the staff at the Mermaid cafe will read this and make the necessary improvements.
The service at the cafe today was painfully slow, waited at least 15 mins in a queue for 2 coffees. There was only one member of staff serving and to his credit, he was working as best he could. Hardly anything was available on the menu and the toilets are out of order. The toilets have been broken for many weeks now. The Mermaid is in a prime position on Folkestone beach, situated near the very popular coastal park. Bearing in mind it is half term week, they should of expected to have been busy and at least had another member of staff on standby.
Let's hope the service improves as we approach the spring/summer season.
