Having eaten here many times, I have never had a bad meal. This is traditional, no muss, no fuss pub food, and lots of it. The menu is surprisingly diverse. There are also real ales on tap. Comfy, friendly and fun. Be sure the visit the ancient church next door: St Eanswythe was established in the 7th century.

My wife and family had the pleasure of eating there on the evening before we travelled to France. We got there just before 7pm when it opened but the wait was well worth it. The food was excellent as was the beer. The landlord was very nice and welcoming and even performed a bit of magic for us. Good trick too! All in all a lovely evening and we would certainly make a point of visiting the British Lion when we are next in Folkestone.

No gimmicks, no TVs. Just wholesome traditional food, plenty of locals, chatty host/hostess and now, being freehold, a selection of local beers. Try sitting in the "Dickens Snug" for genuine authentic historic pub experience.
