We stopped in godshill for lunch with our 2 young children and decided upon "The Essex" a beautiful old pub with a light and fresh interior. We ordered fresh breaded chicken for the kids and crab salad and crab cakes for the grown ups, all the food was deliciously fresh and very tasty. The service was excellent and extremely professional and the menu and specials board full of variety. Thoroughly recommend and will definitely stop again on the way home!!

Popped in to what we presumed to be just another nice olde worlde pub on the Isle of Wight, but couldn't have been more wrong. Contemporary setting, super friendly staff and a light and airy space, we had a fabulous lunch here. Every plate was presented with a twist and the food was really excellent, definitely a bit of extra care taken with each dish. Particularly loved my hoop-la onion rings :). Highly recommend this place.

Nice pub and a great village.

The Roast selection is good and cooked well.

My only disappointment is that the service was slow.

This didn't upset our trip though.

My family and I recently visited this pub for a meal, the setting is lovely, comfortable, with good atmosphere, the food ..fantastic..service good, also serve afternoon cream teas which when I'm next here I will be trying!! Prices really competitive for a tourist attraction..please give this pub a visit and see for yourself.l

We Arrived around 7pm with our Hotel Booking a reservation for us, We Booked a table for 4 and we were just about squeezed in. Busy is always a good sign, and for good reason - the quality of food on offer was Excellent. The Seabass and the peppered Beef were divine, Our Friends had Steak and another Seabass. For Desert we shared a very large cheese board with Isle of Wight cheese, Apple, Celery and homemade chutneys. All huge portions, well cooked, well presented and good value. Service was excellent - only 2 waitresses on but both worked very hard and were polite and friendly.
Overall, a great family business, well run restaurant that clearly thrives on its reputation for great food.
