Went for a latte and a milk shake - only 3 flavours and of course the only one I could drink - banana - haven't got any! Just had the one coffee - very expensive - just didn't feel welcoming at all

The food is nice but the service is slow. It wasn't very busy when we went in but it took around 15 minutes before the waiter came and took our order. However the cream teas are good value for money and very tasty. The sandwiches are very nice too.

We went to the Old World Tea Gardens on 31st August for a cream tea. When we sat down we decided to lower the parasol at the table to take advantage of the sun - at this point two waitresses came over and asked to make sure we lowered it properly as "if they get broken it get's taken from our wages"!!

We ordered 3 cream teas & shortly afterwards the (presumably) owner / manager stormed out to our table & very rudely & without apology leant over us and inspected the parasol, proclaiming that they were very expensive and easy to break. We were then presented with the bill and asked to pay in advance - I say presented with the bill - we were actually just told how much it was & the waitress stood waiting while we counted out our money.

The cream teas, which were very disappointing, arrived shortly after - jam & cream both came in little plastic packets & I doubt that the scones had been baked on site. One of our group had a lemonade, which was simply presented in the can rather than being poured into a glass for him.

In short - When you call yourself the "Old World Teas Gardens", it would be advisable to at least try and disguise the fact that everything is bought in bulk at the cash and carry. If you don't want your customers to use the parasols as they are intended, then perhaps make it impossible for them to do so (these particular parasols have a locking pin, which could easily be replaced by a padlock).

Will not be revisiting - if you want a good quality cream tea on the Isle of Wight I would recommend Queenies of Ventnor.

The other cream teas across the way were expensive. The old world tearooms did a mini cream tea deal which worked out better value. Nice place, Sat in the garden under umbrella both times we went. They do take a while mind you to come and take your order, but overall a nice eaterie
