“Very friendly pub with large garden at the back - ideals for parents with kids .”
Reviewed 22 August 2011

We went to visit Godshill and stopped for lunch at the griffin pub. There are a few spaces in front of the pub , but the main car park for the village is just across the road .
We managed to get seating on the wooden benches outside the large garden at the back and under the umbrellas just at 12.
It is a larger than average pub with an average range of food on the menu. Food price is also typical to pub grub as well - so not particularly cheap neither and shame , nothing really special : usual fish and chips salad, burgers, salmon and vegetables, jacket potatoes ... The lady at the counter was really nice and she made sure the order we took came as ordered : ie no cheese in burger , no dark burn bits on meat ...as my kids are very fussy on their food. I liked that , she did not blink an eyelid - Order and payment at the counter , then you get food delivered at your table when the guys shouts your number .
The garden seats were packed by 1 pm. No more seats but inside .
it is lovely if you got small kiddies - the garden area has a little enclosed space for toddlers up to 7 years old , a mini maze and little football pitch where kids can go off steam while parents soak up the sun or can have their lunch quietly and still watch the kids nearby . Toilets very clean .

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed 21 August 2011

We ate at The Griffin twice during our one week stay in the isle of wight. Agreed that parking is not exactly plentifull but just opposite there is another car park, although i do think it is pay and display (but not terribly expensive compared to London prices!).

Food was plentiful and everything we ordered from children's meals, adult meals and desserts were all tasty and of good value. All staff were welcoming and polite.
This a family friendly pub, and children were able to run around and play outside as they pleased.
We were greated by the owners on both visits and the gentleman noticed my niece crying very loudly due to not getting her own way (and believe me that child can cry) and kindly gave her a tube of bubbles to play with and calmed her down, and she loved that. A huge thanks :)

If we return to the Isle of Wight , we deffinately will visit The Griffin again! :)

“Ok - kind of...........”
Reviewed 15 August 2011

Average £10 per meal. I ordered half a roast chicken with fries and salad, the chicken was deep fried not roasted. Food did arrive quickly and the general agreement was that it was ok. No atmosphere - we sat outside due to maze in the garden which the children wanted to do - this was good. Inside felt 'cheap' and tables looked 'sticky' - hygiene rating is a 3.
Think you get get better taste and value for your money elsewhere..................

“Parking is not as you think.”
Reviewed 12 August 2011

We had come to this Pub as it was advertised in the islands free magazine. Parking was supposed to be plentiful, however the pub was extremely busy and we could not park at all. Therfore we did nit get into the pub. I guess it was a victim of it's own marketing.

“Great food, lovely location, top marks”
Reviewed 27 July 2011

My family and I ate at The Griffin on a recent visit to the Isle of Wight and loved it. It is situated in a very pretty village and has a very welcoming feel. The bar service was very good and the menu was varied and competitively priced. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food which was very tasty and well presented (even the kids loved it which is a miracle!). The beer garden is huge and has plenty of space for children to play. Would definitely recommend eating/visiting here.
