Came across this pub as we were just passing - really glad we stopped.
Very varied menu, not too expensive.
Food was really tasty.
Very pleasant and helpful staff.

“Great food”
Reviewed 21 September 2012

Found this pub on the first night of our stay. What can i say other than went back each night. Very good quality food at a very reasonable price.. Staff are very friendly and had a good selection of beers. (Fortyniners and Broadside stick in my mind)

I would say worth travelling across the island to eat here.

“Nice Pub”
Reviewed 18 September 2012

We've recently holidayed for a week in Brightstone. We didn't get to eat in the pub until the Thursday evening, but it was good enough that we went back again the Friday evening too.

It's clean, spacious and comfy. The staff are very friendly.

The menu (which is on their website) has a reasonable variety of typical pubgrub dishes, and they also have a sizeable specials board. Prices are pretty much what you would expect.

On the first evening, I had crab and prawn salad for starter, followed by burger and chips. On the second evening, prawn cocktail followed by fish and chips.

Each of these dishes came with a good-sized amount of really fresh salad, which was not only enjoyable, but quite filling. The fish starters were beautifully fresh, and the fish and chips excellent. The burger was a little overcooked, but otherwise fine.

All in all, a decent pub doing decent food (all day). There is a car park, and a garden.

“Awful meal, manager not interested”
Reviewed 4 September 2012

Set in the quaint village of Brighstone, Isle of Wight (not Wales as address on here says). There is a lovely play area for kids and area to sit outside if you want, decor inside was nice & modern, bar area was lovely. We were really looking forward to eating here as we were staying locally and it was convenient, had the meal been good we would have returned.

We ordered beef bourguignon, beef stroganoff, chicken breast, bacon & cheese stack & another main course. The beef bourguignon, stroganoff etc looked bland and unappetising, it would have looked and tasted better with the addition of vegetables. The menu states that it is served with crusty bread, it comes with granary bread cut in a thick slice which is anything but crusty. The chicken was horrendously dry and the person eating it really struggled to eat it.

No staff came over to see how our meal was & didn't ask when clearing plates away. I complained to manager about poor meal but he wasn't interested & we didn't receive any discount etc

we didn't stay for dessert despite being hungry and felt it was very expensive for a poor quality meal, we would never return

“Good honest pub”
Reviewed 12 August 2012 via mobile

Visited twice during our holiday in Brighstone.
The kids enjoyed the playground and their meals (which were great value at £5.75 including a drink and ice cream).
Of the main courses we tried, the fish and chips were great (nice crunchy batter, but not too crispy) and the chilli was nicely hot (would have been even better with some soured cream on the side). The beef bourgineoun (spelling?) was a bit disappointing (plenty of tender meat, but a bit watery and just not quite right!).
The beer was well-kept although it would be nice if they had some local brews as well (they have Abbot Ale, Doom Bar, Black Sheep plus a guest beer - none of them came from nearby).
Good friendly service - well recommended.
