“nice break”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

We stayed at the Selborne Hotel for a five day break with Alfa Travel an had a lovely time. The hotel is very clean everywhere and the room was up to date with everything we needed, the bathroom was nice with a lovely shower with plenty of room, and it worked great ( a first for me they are usually small and spray everywhere but where you want). The meals were nice and we had plenty of choice. All the staff were very nice and polite, the hotel has lovely views from the dinning room and bar area, and a nice garden area. Well done Selbourne for a lovely stay.

Stayed here for 1 night as part of an Alfa coach holiday. Twin room was comfortable and the beds were excellent. Nice and quiet. Dinner was overall good, but the vegetables were completely overcooked. Breakfast was very good but the service was very slow.
The hotel's location is superb and it has wonderful views and lovely gardens.
Would definitely return.

Room Tip: It would be worth paying the extra to have a room with river/sea view as the views would be wonderfu...

We have just returned from a 5 day coach break in Dunoon at the Selborne Hotel, I can not personally fault a thing, do not be put off by the two star in my view it is better than most four star hotels we have stayed in. All of the staff are very accommodating, the hotel is very clean, food, entertainment excellent. Dunoon is a good base for the many attractions in this area. We would not hesitate to return to this hotel as many on our coach were already doing.

Room Tip: Sea view is a plus, stunning view down the gardens and we saw some very interesting ships

We stayed here two nights whilst on a tour with over 120 of our MG car friends.
The room was adequate for our needs and the staff were always friendly and polite.
The bar had a reasonable selection of drinks that were not too expensive.
The breakfast and evening meals were always served hot and to order from a daily menu selection. They are obviously used to dealing with large groups and coach parties on a tight time schedule and are therefore very able to serve everyone efficiently.
Good value for money stay.

Room Tip: Sea view supplement worth it

My stay with the MG Car Club was excellent in every way, and way ahead of the AA 2 Star rating. My friend MGTD2 has said it all - I can only add that Kasia, who served our table, was always bright, cheery and helpful,- a real joy.

When I had a problem with my car battery, William, the manager, offered to allow me to recharge it in his office. Items which I left behind in my room were forwarded to me the next day by first class post, and arrived before I realised they were missing!

Reception and bar staff were also cheery and helpful, with bar prices to dream of.

Although the main market for this hotel is probably the coach trade, do not be put off by this. They have clearly learned that the best way to get repeat business is to provide great service, and get a good review here!

Just back from a weekend tour with the MG Car Club Caledonian Centre, the Selborne was our base with a two night stay.

From our initial contact onwards the reservation process was smooth with the on-site desk team being helpful and efficient. Booking in on arrival was swift and all relevant information, dining times etc, clearly detailed; you were made to feel welcome and valued.

Rooms clean and well presented, I had a sea view which (apart from when the mist is is in) is worth the extra. Dinners on both evenings were good with a reasonable choice. Restaurant service was excellent with staff who were bright, cheery and efficient. There is a system and it works. One point you need to order vegetarian in advance / at breakfast which is difficult on your first night.

Evening entertainment was fine with a couple of contrasting solo turns.

Breakfasts, once again a good choice and a system of service which works very rapid from order to being served, set menu but with flexibility . Waitress again bright and cheery and efficient.

Overall our group of over a hundred were well looked after and enjoyed the stay. William, the hands on manager was always about and he and his team are clearly focussed on ensuring their guests have a good experience - we did.

If we go back to the lovely Cowal Peninsula for a future tour then our first call will be to "The Selborne"

Room Tip: Sea view is great and worth the little extra.

A Christmas present from my son included a membership of the "Laird Scheme" of Dunans Castle which is a few miles north of Dunoon. having had a good experience with an "Alfa Hotel" last year, I booked the Selborne hotel the gardens of which go down to the water front, I wanted to visit "My Castle" so booked a self drive holiday from Good Friday until Easter Monday although our room was at the back of the Hotel (You can pay extra for a sea view) it was clean and comfortable with a splendid power shower, our package included bed, breakfast and evening meal, there was a good choice on the menu, an excellent breakfast and a tasty three course evening meal which was served by a friendly waitress, our table had panoramic views over the Loch, later there was some sing along type entertainment and the cost for all this (which included a return trip on the ferry from Gourock ) £99 -00 each

Room Tip: Pay the little bit extra at the front of the hotel
