in all fairness the abbots brae is a very friendly run hotel,
the facilities were kept very clean, nothing was to much trouble.
the food was very good with a varied menu,
the hosts Colin & christen were so helpful & friendly,
there is no reason if we were to visit the area again to stay at the abbots brae.

Room Tip: we found the room overlooking the bay excellent and the view

I have stayed at Abbot's Brae a few times over the past few months and each time has just been excellent. Comfy, clean rooms, a warm welcome and great food (fab breakfast!) with a relaxed atmosphere. Thank you, Colin and Christine.

Our first hotel when arriving in Scotland on a two week driving holiday was the Abbot's Brae. We were welcomed by Colin and shown our room which was very spacious, clean and nicely furnished with a spectacular view of the sea. We had several question about the area and our onward route which Colin gladly answered providing us with very helpful and useful information from where to eat that evening, some history of the area to onward suggestions for when we arrived at our next destination. The breakfast was substantial, well cooked and presented by Christine who, like her husband, provides a warm welcome. There is no question that if in the area we would choose Abbot's Brae as our first choice of hotel.

The friendly manner in which we were greeted, we just knew that our stay was going to be fantastic, and we were not dissapointed.
We we shown to our room which was on the second floor, the room was very spacious and cosy and as a bonus it also overlooked the sea, so serene.
The four poster bed was big and very comfortable. We had asked for a bottle of wine to be placed in the room to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.
Drinking wine sitting in the comfortable armchairs overlooking the sea was incredible.
We had dinner in the hotel that night and the meals were served by Christine, and cooked by Colin, it was hot and delicious and big enough to satisfy us both.
Our stay was topped off with a hearty breakfast before exploring the Dunoon sights, all in all a very pleasurable experience and one which will be repeated in the not too distant future.

How lovely that you came for Abbots Brae for your 25th wedding anniversary. We are so glad that you enjoyed your room and our food. It really is a delightful view from our sea facing rooms and you make sitting sipping wine whilst looking over the sea sound so delightful.

Colin and Christine went out of their way to be accommodating to us when we stayed in Dunoon unexpectedly for a few days. Even though they intended to shut for one of the days/nights they especially opened up to let my sister and I stay. The rooms are very comfortable and the breakfast is excellent!

On arriving at Abbots Brae It was ,at first , a bit daunting in the drive to the top however this was balanced by the beautiful views , seclusion and tranquility of the house that was surrounded by beautiful gardens .
I was greeted by Colin who's friendless immediately made me feel at home . The house has a cosy feel to it and is tasteful decorated with views over the Clyde. My room was spotlessly clean , comfy and had all the necessary requirements of a 5 star , the bed was extremely comfortable and the Milton brown accessories in the bathroom was a bonus. I understand some guests commenting on the 'set' menu which I believe changes daily and having no choice but to have 3 courses for a set price but believe me it was worth every penny . The food was first class , home cooked fresh to order and ample portions . The sea bass I had was beautiful and the homemade salmon pâté was a treat . You can't expect food like this and pay peanuts ,if its cheap frozen pub grub you like then this is not for you .
The breakfast was fresh and as my mother would comment 'a lovely clean cooked breakfast ' which means not greasy with plenty variety and fresh juice on the table . The service from the staff at abbots brae was first class , all the girls were friendly , which I think is very important in a hotel , as it can make or break a place . Nothing was too much trouble for them and delivered the food with a smile . What a difference .

Looking forward to my visit next month on business again .

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room if you are a tourist

I have never encountered a hotel like the Abbot's Brae before. We stayed for two nights and our room had what must be one of the best views in Scotland. The food was fantastic and the beds incredibly comfortable but these elements ended up being secondary to Christine and Colin's wonderful hospitality. This was the first time we had travelled with our baby daughter and they made absolutely sure that we all felt happy and at home. A perfect stay. Thank-you!
