“A real gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2013

We stayed here for a weekend with our family and dog. It felt more like staying with friends as the welcome was so warm. Our grandchildren were wonderfully catered for and there were plenty of toys and books to keep them entertained. Our dog was supplied with a rug, doggy towel, bowl and treats. In my opinion there are few good places to eat in Dunoon but this hotel is an exception. The evening meal was superb - everyone of us enjoyed our choice and the breakfast could not be faulted. The only negative is the drive up if you meet someone going the other way! Anytime we need accommodation in this town it will be our first choice if there are any vacant rooms but everyone who stays there thinks the same so it books up very quickly. Colin and Christine have to be congratulated for the way they run this establishment - it would pay others to follow their excellent example and then more people may be happier to visit the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view if possible. The view is magnificent.

We've just spent three nights here and it was brilliant! Colin and Christine were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The room was spacious, well equipped and with a fantastic view over the sea.
The wildlife in the garden was amazing, red squirrels at the bird table, deer roaming in the gardens, wonderful!
The food was excellent at both breakfast and evening meal, all cooked by Colin using only the best local produce.
Colin and Christine took all the time in the world to advise on the best places to visit and had excellent local knowledge and all the staff were really pleasant and helpful.
Only the best was good enough for them, like staying at the best hotel but with the friendliness of a small B&B.
Thanks for a lovely stay to all of you!

Room Tip: All rooms are good but try to get a sea view, it's beautiful!

I was sent to Dunoon on a business trip and had the pleasure of staying at the Abbots Brae. I have worked away from home on many occasions and I have never felt as comfortable or as at home as I did staying here. The rooms are very homely and all very quirky in their own way. I stayed in 2 different rooms and both were very clean and well looked after. On arrival you find a chocolate treat on your pillow which is a great touch, and the room has all amenities that you may need. However I must say the best thing about my trip was the food! Every night I experienced a different menu selection and each meal seemed to get better than the last. I am delighted to be returning on business again as I have missed the quality of food since I left! Whether on business or on a personal trip I would highly recommend that this is the place to be in Dunoon and you will be made very welcome by the owners Christine and Colin.

Room Tip: Depending on the nature of you trip, if you are a female travelling alone you might feel more comfor...

The location and views are spectacular overlooking the Clyde. The food is wonderful, both breakfast and dinner. The room was big and airy, clean, very comfortable with a large bay window showing all the movement on the Clyde. Wildlife roamed in the gardens and feeding stations, red deer and red squirrels were regularly seen. For an amazing walk go through the twin car port and turn left into Morag's Fairy Glen and keep walking and you will trace a stream uphill with numerous waterfalls. It is quite spectacular, but the number of forks mean you need a good memory. Our little dog loved his first ever holiday, particularly the daily treats left on his bed. Highly recommended. Our sincere thanks to the proprietors Christine and Colin and their Staff.

Room Tip: Front facing is highly recommended for the spectacular views of the Clyde

We were given a gift voucher through our daughters work for one nights bed and breakfast and decided to take a weekend trip to use it. The hotel was beautiful and our room had stunning views over the firth of Clyde. Breakfast was lovely and the staff we're very welcoming. We loved watching the wildlife (red squirrels and robins) and would definitely recommend the abbot's for a pleasant and relaxing stay. The walk to Dunoon was pleasant with plenty of seats along the way to watch the world go by, nothing negative can be said and we would hope to visit again one day.

Don't be put off by the winding road up to the hotel! The warmth of the welcome, the quality of the service and the magnificance of the view make up for the bends! Where else could you view the mouth of the Clyde whilst watching red squirrels, greater spotted woodpeckers and roe deer at the same time. The room was superb as was the dinnerr and breakfast. This is a real gem of a hotel. Not to be missed!

Room Tip: Ask for one with a view of the Clyde.

A warm friendly welcome by Colin, and a very comfortable room overlooking the Clyde.
As the weather was particularly good, we spent little time in, and after a super breakfast, each day we did a bit of touring, and opted to eat out, in preference to the optional evening meal, which would have cost cosiderably more.
Would cetainly come back and recommend to friends.
