We really wanted to visit the West of Scotland but not have to do the huge drive. We also needed accommodation the would allow dogs.
Dunoon is situated about 1 hour outside of Glasgow (when taking the ferry route). Dunoon itself is a fairly typical harbour town, not exciting really, but it is the gate to the Cowal Peninsula, some absolutely stunning spots and some great fishing areas.
The hotel, although a little dated, is quaint, well looked after and in a lovely position over looking the water. The hosts Christine and Colin are absolutely wonderful hosts, which we could not fault in any way at all. Nothing was too much trouble. Christine, who is mainly front of house puts herself out at every moment to make sure you know where you are going and have an entertaining time and Colin who is mainly in the kitchen, prepares wonderful fresh food for guests. The other staff were friendly and gentle.
We have an autistic son and Christine went out of her way to befriend him and make him feel comfortable. If you want a break away in a home away from home.. this is the place!More
