Having looking forward to spending Christmas in dunoon until I arrived at The Royal Marine Hotel. I Arrived to be waiting at the dest for 25mins although there were people in the back room as you could hear giggling!!! Then was greated by two young girls who had not a clue what they were doing!! Im surprised they knew how to dress themselves although one girl had a balloon on her head!! When I asked if I could get assistance with my luggage I was told " sorry we dont have a kitchen porter" This hotel is ran by performing seals!! Would mot go back unless to ghillies the service was friendly and had a lovely meal.xx

We were visiting my mother in one of the local care homes and had to book three nights in this old hotel as it was so near Christmas, there was no availability online elsewhere. When we arrived, we were given the key of a room and told it was on the second floor. As we climbed the stairs the temperature began to drop until it was positively Baltic. The room we had been given was room 24. It was huge Victorian room with high ceilings, a double and three singles. The radiators were not on in the corridor, the bedroom or the on suite bathroom. There was a small electric convector heater in the bedroom and nothing in the bathroom. We were appalled as the weather was foul and it was December. On enquiry, my husband was told the heating doesn't come on until half past three in the afternoon (we arrived at about 3 pm). The bathroom had a filthy blind, the windows were overgrown with a creeping plant and the walls were very grubby everywhere. After an hour, the room was not heating up so we asked if we could have a smaller double room with a smaller bathroom that might have a chance of heating up with the electric convector heater. The lady on reception then gave us a key to rom 23. This was marginally better although just as grubby. There were white stains on the counter pane and lots of dust around and under the beds. The bathroom took ages for the hot water to come through, the towels were old and thin and smelled stale. The soaps provided smelled fusty and looked like they had been around for a very long time. Unfortunately we didn't have a choice that night and had to stay. The radiators didn't,t come on in the morning either. The television was a tiny analogue portable with remote. Wi Fi did not work anywhere in the hotel. On the plus side, the staff remained friendly and welcomed our comments in a positive way. The cooked breakfast was also good. Needless to say, we checked out after one night. We were told by the locals the hotel had been run down but recently taken over by new owners. All we can say is we hope they clean it up soon as it is definitely not worth the £100 per night ( for two people) they were charging. We managed to find a room in another hotel for the rest of our stay that was much much warmer and cleaner for £30 less per night. Looking at the reviews of other people in September, they must have had very different rooms to ours. We are still in shock that they had the audacity to charge so much.

Room Tip: Do not take rooms 23 and 24

Stopped here for a night is is a big old hotel and yes needs a few things doing but was a pleasant stay clean and tidy and good service.
You get what you pay for and I think it was very good value.
I will send a scan of the wedding picture taken out side when it was the yacht club.

Rooms are very dated although we found them very clean. Tv and free view box very dated and controller did not work. The room was warm and quite and a good night sleep was had. Breakfast was good with a good choice, service was very good and overall good value for £58.

We initially booked a 4 night stay at this hotel we did so after viewing the pictures on the website, how disappointed we where on arrival from the front we could see that ivy had practically overgrown the front of the hotel. We booked a superior room (Skye) when we got to the room it was really dark as the ivy had partially grown over the window the furniture was old and the bathroom was disgusting we only had a shower it was rotten with mould all around the seal on the shower tray also on the glass shower cubicle (I would not use it) the hand basin was also dirty I had to clean it I went to switch the bedside light on that was very dusty. Their was also a cup stain on the dressing table, the paint was peeling off the radiator and the windows where dirty. The television in the room was very small and old. We went to Ghillies bar for some food that was fine and breakfast was ok. We spoke to one guest and he said they have made a good job at airbrushing over the web pictures at this hotel and I have to agree with him. On the plus side the staff was very helpful and polite needless to say we only stayed 1 night.

We stayed in a suite room at the front of the hotel which had a large but dated bathroom with bath and shower over. the room itself was furnished with old, classical furniture and the room whilst needing a lick of paint was quaint and clean. the large sleigh bed was nice. The only fault was the old fashioned very small tv which is not really acceptable in this day and age for a good hotel. The hotel looks really nice from the outside and on the inside has all the old original features but it could do with a bit of a facelift. Staff were excellent and could not be faulted. Breakfast very good indeed and you are allocated a table when you arrive at the hotel for the duration of your stay. The ghillies bar was good for a drink and the food we saw being served looked and smelled really good but we did not eat there.
