“Very poor”

Food served far too expensive for such a poor experience. Whole experience a let down . We will NEVER go back . Best to go to chippy in Dunoon at least food piping hot and edible.

“Dunoon's Failing”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 November 2013

Visited this restaurant while having an annual weekend break with friends. After reading previous reviews, we were led to believe this was one of Dunoon's hidden treasures. How wrong could we be.

As we were a large group (12) we booked WELL in advance, so they knew we were arriving. From the decor and layout, the restaurant has potential however the food lets it down on all accounts. The pigeon starter was horrific, grey leathery meat which was inedible, yet the cold starters were all nice- probably because there was no cooking involved.

When the mains finally came- almost after waiting 2hours- half of the food was cooked to death and the other half passable. The chicken was a solid lump underneath glue like gravy, the burgers were cold slabs of grey 'meat' and the fillet steak was a shaped piece of brisket . The seafood linguine was the best part of the meal, but this was only 2 dishes out of 12 so the people eating this didn't enjoy it due to the rest of the party sitting with nothing for their dinner.

We asked that all the meals that were inedible (10) be sent back and not added to our bill, which was honoured and the last round of drinks were offered free of charge. But when we asked to speak to the manager he had already left for the night, even though it was not even 6pm. How does a restaurant function without a manager after 6pm??

In fairness, the serving staff did apologise, but couldn't provide the reasons for the food being so horrific, half of us left in search of another place to eat and within this time the manager did return advising of the most ridiculous excuse for bad food I have ever heard. The chef who was scheduled that night, had just been fired and was 'out to sabotage the service that night' so WHY would you have him working when you knew you had a large party due in???!

Do not visit this restaurant. Ever.

“Great wee surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2013

The Braes is tucked away on School Brae in Dunoon......my stepson and I found it quite by happenstance.
It was lunchtime , so we stopped in and were very pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was cozy, very clean (including the bathrooms), and the staff was attentive and friendly.
I had the best chicken salad ciabatta I have ever had, with delicious fries and a side-salad. My stepson had an equally delicious tuna salad ciabatta platter.
It was a very enjoyable experience, and it will certainly look forward to eating there again.

“Fantastic food and service second to none”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2013

Went for a family celebration, a mix of 18 adults an children and everyone was well caterered for and really well looked after. Not one of the family from age 1 to 72 had a complaint about the food or staff. Really sorry I can't remember our waiters name but you will know who you are! and thanks again

“very disappointing experience”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 October 2013

Today oct 4th went to lunch at Braes. My wife asked for no mayo on salad but it came topped with mayo anyway. She reminded the waitress who took it back and returned with plain salad. When she started eating the sandwich it was covered in garlic mayo. Pretty much inedible. Waitress could not have cared less. Restaurant virtually empty. Go figure !
