“Great end to a day out”
Reviewed 30 August 2013

We were visiting Dunoon for the Cowal Gathering and had tramped quite a distance (we had even tried to catch a glimpse of the Jim Crowe rock but had given up when we realised it was much further than we had time for). So with a couple of hours before the Waverley turned up for the return trip, we decided to treat ourselves with a Fish Supper. We had noticed some takeaway establishments but not anywhere to sit down, so we were delighted to find that the Eatery was offering Beer-battered fish and chips.

Once inside we found they had an extensive menu but we stuck to our guns and decided on the Fish Tea Special which provided great value: Fish, Chips, Mushy Peas or Salad with a pot of tea AND a freshly baked scone with cream and jam to follow! At £9.95 this was a bargain.

We liked the decor which gave a nod to the American influence in Dunoon and the service was very friendly and helpful.

The fish was huge with lovely crunchy batter and so despite its huge size we both managed to polish it all off as it was so delicious.

All in all a great experience,

“The Scottish hospitality that we wanted!”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

My whole family loved this pub restaurant, when we visited Dunoon earlier this month. What a lovely welcome we received, and our kids were made such a fuss of. We opted for the kids meal deal for them, which was excellent value, with a drink and ice cream included. Two of us went regional, and tried the Scottish beer battered haddock, which turned out to be a great choice. My brother had a steak platter, which was cooked to perfection, and he knows a good steak. After sharing their mixed combo to start, we didn't leave room for dessert, but we saw some going to another table, and they looked pretty good. All in all we got exactly what we wanted from a local eatery, and would definitely recommend to anyone visiting this lovely Scottish town.

“Never dissapoints”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

Have reviewed The Eatery before but have to say it is now even better. Just had the most delicious meal no scrimping, huge portions all fresh made well presented and served by very friendly staff no such thing as cranky kids here staff go out of there way to keep kids amused.
I had steak pie this time served with chips and veg the pastry was extremely light and the dish was packed with tender lean steak there was no way this was microwaved.. Followed this with Eton mess' wow' compliments to the chef and the staff of this family friendly run pub and eatery looking forward already to next visit.

“Fantastic”
Reviewed 6 August 2013

Ate in this small cafe on Sunday 4/7/2013 the menu was quite extensive with specials available, nothing was a problem for the staff, who, we're very welcoming.
We had home made tomato soup as a starter which was very very tasty, we also had a variety of main meals which were equally tasty, I would recommend this small cafe to anyone wanting a snack or a full meal they also serve alcohol should you require it.

Total cost for 6 starters 6 main meals and a round of drinks total cost £78 the cafe is an extension of the main pub which is accessed via swing doors you can also eat in the bar area should you prefer

The cafe is minutes away from the argyle car ferry between Dunoon and Gourock

“Lovely warm welcome, nice food too.”
Reviewed 5 August 2013

We visited with our grandchildren, and were made to feel very welcome. Kids' menu at £4.95 was great value, being main course, ice cream, and drink. Our steak pie was very tasty, and came with either chips or baked potato and vegetables. Maybe a bit pricey at £8.95, but there was loads of meat in the pie. Colouring sheets and crayons were provided for the wee ones, and our waitress gave us good advice on what was available in the area. There's a beer garden upstairs, and a wee playground for the children.
