“Beautiful well equipped lodge in a perfect location”
Reviewed 12 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We stayed at Stravaigan Lodge at the beginning of April and had a wonderful weekend. The hosts Gordon and Catherine had left lots of information about the surrounding area and we had a lovely time visiting the highly recommended Benmore Gardens (restored Victorian fernery a particular highlight) and sampling some excellent food at the nearby Coylet Inn. There are lots of other great walks nearby including Puck's Glen and around Loch Eck.

The lodge itself is cosy but still spacious. There was just the two of us but there is more than enough room for six people and there is a lovely big kitchen table that also seats six. The kitchen is really well equipped and leads out onto a covered decking area where you can watch countless birds swinging from the bird feeders.

There is a garage about a mile along the road that has everything you'll need for a couple of nights including food and alcohol, newspapers etc, or you can a get a bigger shop in nearby Dunoon.

Scotland sometimes suffers from owners taking the location for granted and forgetting about the little things, but the owners here have made sure the lodge has a luxurious finish - Egyptian cotton bedsheets and wool tartan blankets a really nice touch.

We will be returning again soon.

“The height of cosiness”

If you can have a height of cosiness, then Stravaigin Lodge is there. Very comfortable, well appointed, and in a lovely setting - far enough away from the town to feel the quiet peace of the countryside, but close enough to make a quick run for supplies if need be. A great place to relax, and a hard place to leave.

Glad you had a good time Vanessa. We thought about internet at one point but then decided that part of the enjoyment of the place is the fact it's fairly cut-off from the (hectic) modern world. By cistern I guess you mean the boiler or water supply? Just after you stayed there Catherine and I and two of our friends stayed there and noticed the shower cutting out halfway through someone's shower. I got a plumber in and he discovered there was a problem with the shower's circuitry which kept tripping the shower off. So we've had a completely new shower installed which now works perfectly. If you did mean cistern, I think the fact we're on a chemical septic tank system means the cistern is sometimes slow to fill up. Sorry if this was a problem. Hope all's good with you anyway....and come back soon. Gordon & Catherine

“Cant wait to go back, loved it”
Reviewed 1 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

Great place, quiet. tranquil location but only 10 mins to Dunoon. Owners have thought of everything as lodge is very well equipped with everything you need for an enjoyable break. Lodge was immaculate and well maintained, lovely comfy beds and nice and warm after a day outdoors. We particularly loved the close proximity to Puck gorge, a must as long as you are fit, though you dont have to be super fit cos we aint. Benmore gardens a 10 min stroll from lodge and is a great day out, cafe great and does lovely food and not expensive, cakes to die for lol. Owners were great and had quick and friendly responses from enquiry onwards with them. Cant wait to return, but unfortunately it books early so need to plan well ahead, but well worth it

“A great gaff - looking forward to going back.”
Reviewed 8 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

I just spent a great week with my wife at the Stravaigin Lodge. The lodge is in a small quiet park about 10-15 minutes out of Dunoon. Its very well-maintained and kitted out with all the stuff you could need for a comfortable stay. We were lucky with the weather and were able to sit out on the veranda morning and evening without midge interference. Puck's Glen and Benmore Gardens are both within walking distance and offer hours of pleasant perambulations. Its also a great base to explore the unspoilt coast and beaches on the eastern shores of Cowal; especially recommend sunset dining at the Oyster Catcher at Otter Ferry overlooking Loch Fyne. Overall, a great gaff and we'll be heading back soon with family and friends in tow.
