“Rewally enjoyed our stay here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2011

We stayed here recently for 2 nights with our 4 year old grandaughter. Staff were helpful and very friendly and food was delicious - especially in Rio Restaurant. Our room (133 on ground floor) was large, 1 double and 1 single bed, sofa, large TV etc. The very spacious bathroom had shower over the bath - everything was spotless. This was our first time in Dunoon, weather made it extra special and we would love to return - and we would definately book this hotel again. Our only complaint was that it would have been lovely to have some sort of airconditioning - as we were on the ground floor we weren't happy at having the windows open and it was rather warm.

Stayed with family and loved the location of the hotel. We were positioned facing the 'noisy street', but having said that this seems to be a way of life, and in a recent trip to Berlin the hotel left disposable ear plugs - so that night be worth a try. Also on that note we did expect noise especially when a hotel is in the centre of town. On arrival the receptionist was very friendly. We ate in the hotels main restaurant the first night and their Rio Restaurant on the second night. Without a doubt we all preferred the Rio. Our roast beef the first night was tasteless and the gravy flavourless, however my daughter loved her chicken dish, and my son enjoyed his salmon. The desserts weren't great so we were really surprised when the Rio's desserts were lovely. All in all would not hesitate to recommend the hotel or Dunoon as a place to visit. It's also worth mentioning that the shops were also great, and the hotel cleaner the friendliest ever.

Nice room - really big double bed. Clean and fresh.

The noise from the kebab shop and seating area outside was really awful. It was shouts/swearing and arguments from drunks. We could even hear what they were saying. Approaching the hotel in the evening also not good because a couple of guys were squaring up to each other. The noise went on beyond 01:30.

The room keys don't work. Ours was 'wiped' twice; think it might have been the mobile resting against it.

We had asked for an additional bed for our youngest child - it didn't appear. Having had so much hassle with the room keys already, we just dug out our inflatable bed from the car.

When we got up for breakfast we had to wander down a corridor strewn with bedsheets and other stuff for doing the rooms. It wasn't just outside one door - all down the corridor of the first floor.

At breakfast (served from 8:30 til 10) we arrived at 9:45. There were no tables initially, as couples were seated at tables for four, while tables for two were vacant. Once we were seated the table wasn't cleared until we asked for it to be done. Even then, the cutlery and side plates weren't replaced. The food was fine (scrambled egg cold though), but the juice at the self service area wasn't topped up and they had run out of glasses.

We won't be booking again unless we can't get anywhere else nearby.

Lovely stay - hotel is central to the town and close to the pier.

All staff very friendly and helpful. Food great - especially the tapas bar.

Best holiday we've had for ages - we'll certainly be coming back.

My partner and I booked the Argyll Hotel for their Haunted Hotel/Murder Mystery weekend on 22nd July.

From the moment we walked into the hotel the fun began. The hotel staff were very attentive which made for a warm welcome. We were in room 133 on the ground floor, the room was very spacious with a single and double bed. There was also a large leather sofa and plenty of storage. A 42" LCD Freeview TV was mounted on the wall. The room was spotless and the beds very comfortable. A large bathroom with shower and bath made the whole room look like a mini suite. The only downside to the room was the windows overlooked a lane and between 1am to 2am you could hear a lot of noise from young people leaving a nearby club. A few of them came running past our window making a lot of noise.

The food was amazing, absolutely no complaints there, the waiting staff were very courteous and despite serving for around 60 people it was evident that the chef and kitchen staff took a pride in presenting the guests with delicious hot food.

The entertainment was so good that we have booked the "Tipsy Towers" tribute to Fawlty Towers on 23rd Sept. The Walking Theatre Company were excellent and encouraged the guests to join in on their Murder Mystery. The Glasgow Paranormal Investigators provided a spooky but memorable tour of the cellars, just like a scene from "Most Haunted", they also spent a few hours answering all our questions and showing us images and footage of previous investigations.

We both thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and it was great value for money at only £99 per person. I would recommend the Themed Nights to anyone who fancies a weekend away at an affordable price.

Well done to the staff at the Argyll Hotel, The Walking Theatre Company and Glasgow Paranormal Investigators!!

Poor reception on arrival. Charged extra for room we were not given. asked to state exactly what time we would be going to the dining room. Food offered was a varied choice but some meals cold and breakfast had been sitting for some time. I.e. Beans congealed, fried egg rubbery, bacon Luke warm
