Stayed at the hotel for a murder mystery weekend. Absolutely loved our time there. The staff were all very friendly & helpful. The actors were all absolutely wonderful & really captured the audience. The value for money for the weekend was outstanding! Would definitely recommend to people of all ages! So much so that we are booking up for another later in the year! Loved it!

We stayed here weekend 14th march on a Glasgow Great Deal Weekend (our second time) The hotel staff couldn't have done any more for us they are fantastic ( especially duty manager Gary! I'm sure this poor guy needed therapy after we left!!!!) The food in both restaurants was excellent. The Rio is a lovely relaxing place to eat and the food was delicious. We have booked to go back in October and it can't come quick enough. Gary we will try be on our best behaviour but can't promise. Thanks again Janette, Aileen, Christine & Christine.

We have just returned from an excellent weekend away at the Argyll Hotel, Dunoon. They hosted a "Spying Murder Mystery" weekend. In this, actors played several parts and we had to deduce who the murderer was.

Well, we got it COMPLETELY Wrong!!!!!!

The actors of the "Walking Theatre Company" were very funny - they interacted with us - the audience - as well as responding to heckles and comments. They were BRILLIANT!!!!!

Now, the review.

We were on the first floor, a sea view room. The room, itself, was very good - a little small, but more than enough space for the bed and built in wardrobe and table, chest of drawers and a couple of chairs. The shower room was adequate. The rooms were very clean, and housekeeping checked and cleaned the rooms every day. The bed was good quality - two single beds joined, the matrtess was not too soft or too hard.

The food was excellent - the choices we had on the menu for the evening meals were good, and if you did not like anything they would try and give you something you would like.

We did not have lunch in the hotel, so we cannot comment on that.

Breakfast was from 08:00 to 10:00, a traditional cereal and fresh juice - Orange, Apple, Grapefruit, Mango and Tomato were all available to choose from - all were ice cold as they had several ice cubes within the jars of juice.

After the cereal a cooked breakfast was received - a choice of a Full Scottish or individual items. All very well cooked and not too oily. Lots of toast and tea of coffee.

The staff were excellent, from the management - who managed to obtain drinking chocolate, the housekeeping staff and the waiters and waitresses. All deserved 10 out of 10. BRILLIANT!!!!!

The bar was well stocked with draft and bottled beer and cider, the prices were good, the bar staff were excellent.

There is two small things which I woukd like to comment on, which I feel the hotel could be better at:

1. Single ply toilet paper - single ply toilet paper should be replaced to double ply.

2. In the bathroom / shower room there was no sticker / label to indicate if you wanted the towels replaced or not. In other hotels, they would say if you want the towel replaced the put it on the floor or in the bath - there was nothing in our room, as such there was no way to indicate to the housekeeping staff if you wanted the towel to be replaced.

On the whole, I would say "The Best Western Argyll Hotel, Dunoon" is by far a brillaint hotel, the murder mystery weekends they do are so very funny and well worth a visit.

Come and enjoy yourself to the next weekend - we may very well be there....

Room Tip: All the rooms are excellent.

Lovely old building, could do with a bit of sprucing up. Very friendly and helpful staff, food in restaurant excellent and great value. Room small but comfortable and reasonably priced; overall very happy staying here and would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Stayed in attic room, so any other ground or first floor probably a better bet.

We visited this hotel for a weekend break. The staff were very friendly, food was good, entertainment good and I would highly recommend it.
We drove from Glasgow to Gourock, jumped on the ferry (20 mins and very frequent) and arrived at hotel soon after.
A very enjoyable weekend and we will return again.

Room Tip: We paid abit extra to get an upgrade to an excellent room

This was our third stay at this hotel and I have to say the standards have dropped considerably. Yes it was a Glasgow great deal for £99 for a 2 night stay, but it's only good value if the quality and standards are good. We paid to upgrade to the four poster sea view (no freebies for us!!) we were allocated room 101 the Campbell suite, I noticed a previous reviewer thought this was a great room, I however found it very uncomfortable looking into the garden of the hotel owners house and seeing the children playing noisily in the garden!! The room appeared clean however we found a previous guests medication lying on the floor, what if a child had been in that room, god knows what the pills were!! Also found dried up well used soap still in the dish in the shower, thanks for that, we'll worth the additional money to upgrade!
We ate in the rio restaurant, the food was ok, the standard of drinks are awful. We ordered the Pinot Grigio rose wine, however once the wine was outed and we tasted it, it was a Grenache and a very bad quality one at that. We were still charged the same price as the Pinot Grigio! I wouldn't have said the restaurant was overly busy and there was more staff than our last visit but they really didn't seem to be doing much. We eventually left after 30 minutes of being ignored trying to order a dessert. I should point out here we purchased a £20 voucher for £40 worth of food in the rio, was not worth it as I think we only spent. About £20!
Dinner on the second night was in the hotel and I have to say the menu was very limited and the food substandard! Terrible terrible excuse for Black Forest gateaux!!!
On leaving I did tell reception about my experience, however the male only pointed out that he had only worked there for 2 months and that we were on a Glasgow great deal!! Speaks volumes, pay your money take your chance!!!!
