“Superb stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 September 2013

On arrival at Hunters quay Hotel we were greeted by Francois and Maria, the Hotel is immaculate and we were privileged to stay in two rooms both over looking the beautiful Holy Loch we were made to feel very much at home and Francois recommended some lovely restaurants to eat in. The breakfast set us up for a busy day touring the magnificent Trossach region, our room was out of this world with fantastic views across the estuary.
Nothing was too much trouble for Francois and Maria and they made our stay so enjoyable.
Thank you Francois and Maria, we definitely would recommend this Hotel in Dunoon.
We will be back!.

The Hunters Quay Hotel was a lovely experience, one of the best on our trip to Scotland, the hotel is a real treasure with warm and friendly hospitality from the staff Francois and Maria, they were so welcoming and catered for our every need, including a lovey breakfast each morning - overlooking the excellent views of the Clyde with the Western Ferry coming and going, even in the morning mist it was great to just be there. We walked in the historic Puck's Glen, a must for keen walkers, close to the ancient Benmore Forest. The lounge of the Hotel is relaxing and a great place to enjoy lovely company and a refreshing drink. Bedroom was out of this world with again great views of the Clyde and the Ferry. Very comfortable and inviting place to stay. Highly recommend. - Jacqui and David Booth - Ironbank Australia.

My family and I came to visit the Hunters Quay Hotel in August 2013 as part of a trip to Scotland from Australia. It was such a beautiful hotel with a lovely sitting room and amazing views. The staff were friendly and accommmodating to our needs and the facilities had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were clean and we felt very at home. Even though the restaurant wasnt open at the time of our stay we were offered excellent advice about local dining in the area which didnt disappoint! We were recommended some excellent walks around the area and it was only a short drive to some great sights. Definitely worth a visit!

Recently returned from a 2 night stay, we had never been to the area before, despite being from Scotland ourselves.
Location, reasonable room rate and largely favourable reviews led us to choose the Hunters Quay. Arrived to a quick efficient check in, and clean, comfortable room with sea view. Restaurant was closed but we were expecting this, as other reviewers had noted this previously. Our host recommended some good places to eat, and advised us against ones that were not so good !
Very comfortable nights' sleep followed by breakfast which we both thoroughly enjoyed. Excellent selection of cereals, juices, fruit, toast, jams, tea/coffee - as much or as little as you wanted. Enjoyed a full cooked breakfast with a lovely view from the dining room window (despite the rain !)
Really enjoyed our much needed break. If we were to criticise anything - there are only two very small points .....the bed was not made in morning although the rest of the room was serviced/towels replaced, and we would have loved the bar to have had lights on and to have looked welcoming when we returned from dinner in Dunoon in the evening. It would have been a lovely end to the day to be able to sit in the bar and enjoy the surroundings of the public areas a bit more - which were lovely. However, there was nobody around so we went up to our room and enjoyed the view from up there. Check out fine. We would stay again but would hope to be able to afford to stay in one of the larger rooms next time for a bit of added luxury !

Room Tip: Ask for room with sea view - well worth it.

We have returned from a two night stay at Hunters Quay Hotel and we very disappointed by this establishment. We are extensive travellers and this is the first time I've ever felt compelled to write a review.

Firstly it's not a hotel as I understand the term to mean, it doesn't even come close to the B&B's I've stayed in over the years. We felt like unwanted guests staying in someone's house as opposed to paying guests in a hotel.

When we arrived the restaurant was closed, we were not told this beforehand nor were we informed upon our arrival, there was just a printed statement in the dining room window. Dunoon is not overwhelmed with eateries although we were directed to a nice local brasserie.

At breakfast we were asked what we want to eat before we had even sat down and no menu was offered. This made us feel rather awkward and put on the spot, not a relaxing start to the day. I asked for Earl Grey tea and the response was 'I think I have some of that somewhere', I was amazed, it's not as if I was asking for something wildly extravagant.

Our room was large, with great views and the bed was comfy, but it was not cleaned nor was the bed made during our stay. Again, this is not hotel standard.

When my husband went to pay the bill on our departure there was a section on the card machine to leave a tip, he had never seen this at a hotel before and so just queried it with the owner. When my husband commented on this being unusual the response was "that'll be a no then". When do you ever leave a tip at a hotel when paying the bill?

The overall experience was disappointing and it did take the edge off what had been a lovely Scottish holiday.

I stayed here in June with my nephews and niece the complex
Has everything you need and isn't to pricey swimming pool is great and the bar is well priced with a great selection of food for the kids if your going into Dunoon I highly recommend Clyde taxis as they were the best in town and they didn't take
The tourist route to get more cash from you unlike some of the others

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful three night stay at the Hunters Quay Hotel. Upon arrival we were met with a warm welcome from Francois, who for the duration of our stay was outstandingly helpful. We stayed in room 1 and the views across the sea were fantastic. We slept soundly each night with no disturbance from traffic etc. The Hotel is furnished to a high standard and is spotlessly clean. The Bedroom was large, airy and well furnished with ample wardrobe and drawer space, also free wifi. The Bathroom again was large with a corner bath and superb shower. Not knowing the area Francois was able to suggest different restaurants each night, along with booking a table each night for us, we ate fantastic quality food thanks to Francois. Breakfast at the hotel was superb, a fine selection of quality cereals fruit juices toast and a cooked breakfast if you wished.
Housekeeping could not have been more helpful allowing us to have a lazy Sunday morning after breakfast and making the room up later in the day.
All we can say is a genuine big thank you to Francois and the team at the Hunters Quay Hotel.
We will definitely return and would not hesitate to recommend the Hunters Quay Hotel to any traveller.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are superb
