“Convenient excellent hotel on the Clyde Estuary”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2009

On returning from a holiday in Arran and Islay, we needed to stay for a night somewhere near Greenock and the M8, so that next day we could have a long, boring journey home down the M74, M6 and M5.
I found this delightful, friendly hotel on the opposite side of the Clyde estuary to Greenock, near Holy Loch. We had a large front room which overlooked the entire estuary, complete with yachts, regular ferries and some wildlife, including an inquisitive seal!
The owners were most helpful, and arranged our ferry crossing at a reduced rate. The food was tasty and of high quality. Very comfortable huge lounge. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for any number of days. It was delightful!

You are guaranteed a warm welcome at this beautiful hotel overlooking the busy ferry terminal. The hosts are a lovely young couple who do everything to make your stay memorable.
The evening meals were cooked to perfection and I can honestly say the fillet steak and venison were the best I had ever tasted. Our room was the 4 poster premier room with a superb magical view and a comfortable huge bed. I liked the touches of the scottish bath products and lots of hot water.

A bit of a surprise - had booked this hotel from an internet search as I needed somwhere to stay in Dunoon on business, and wasn't sure what to expect, but thought it was great. Very friendly staff and very comfortable. The hotel had been newly refursbished and this had been done to a very high standard so the rooms and public areas were all fresh and clean and looked very stylish. A good size en-suite bedroom had views over the water, and as the hotwel is right opposite the fery terminal, I left my car on the Gourock side and came over as a foot passenger.

Would stay here again if back in Dunoon, although I must admit I'm not sure if I would come to Dunoon for pleasure - sorry folks!

  • Liked — Decor and rooms
  • Disliked — Breakfast wasn't that great - terrible sausages!

We thought we'd have a short break early in the New Year and get away from Gordon Brown's economic crisis. Hunters Quay was our first stop and this was our first visit to this hotel.

The TA reviews are almost too good to be true and we've been caught out before but the fact is they are spot on for this hotel.

It is a just a delightful place in a delightful and interesting setting just across from where the small Western Car Ferries ply their trade to Gourock. Magnificent sea views from just about all points in the hotel.

Our hosts Christine and Graham were warm and welcoming but without being in any way ott. We discovered that Graham was born in a hotel nearby which was owned by his family and it showed in the relaxed but organised attention to detail we experienced. They gave our dog Izzy a really warm welcome as well.

Premises are delightful, spotless and beautifully decorated. Our bedroom was generous with a huge bathroom and a superb view across the Clyde estuary.

Food and service was excellent, quality without being fussy. Interesting, varied and good value wine list. Overall super value. Don't hesitate, this is a very good hotel run by sincere and delightful folk who know exactly what they are doing..

We have just returned from a weekend break at Hunters Quay Hotel. The hotel is in a beautiful location on the seafront backed by mountains. This was made all the more stunning when we were staying there due to the thick layer of snow, that had arrived after our first night.

The owners have lovingly restored this hotel since they took it over 5 years ago. We stayed in the room with the 4 poster bed, which was huge, nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. Lots of care has been taken with small touches such as feather pillows, good quality linen and towels, a decent TV with and free wireless internet.

We ate in both nights. There was little else in the area to compete with the quality of the food and for £24 for three courses, it is really good value. Everything was piping hot and beautifully presented. There is also a great selection of good wines and drinks. The breakfast was also excellent.

The scenery is spectacular. We got a great view of it on the ferry. It is easy to drive around the area and see quite a lot in a weekend. The weather curtailed some of the walks we would have liked to do. We would happily return to this hotel.
