To mark our second wedding anniversary and the news that finally some good weather was on the way I trawled the depths of Trip Advisor to find a nice hotel in Southern Scotland - somewhere we'd never been. My first find was the Corsewall Lighthouse near Stranraer, but the reviews did it no favours so I looked at the top of the list - I'm so glad I did.
The Hunters Quay lovely period home, spotlessly clean and wonderfully furnished with grand old style furniture and little trinkets here and there. Our room was huge, with grand high ceilings, decorative plaster work and big comfy sofa by picture window overlooking the Firth of Clyde. The view was so great, we never shut the curtains all night - instead choosing to watch the boats go by. Daybreak was spectacular.

We chose to eat at the hotel and supper from the table d'hot menu was delicious and of fairly local theme. Christine and Graham are great hosts and eating at the hotel was more like being at friends for a social dinner rather than a formal meal. Our glasses never emptied and our courses arrived and departed with seamless efficiency. Breakfast the following morning was equally as impressive - freshly prepared, quality produce from all over Scotland, we finished the lot.

All in all an excellent hotel, great rooms, soooo clean, brilliant hosts and very relaxing. Highly recommended.

My girlfriend and i couldn't believe just how clean and well presented this hotel was, the owners are great, food was great. also in great location because right next to the ferry. i would recomend this hotel to anyone and everyone. the view from the room was lovely, also the outside of the hotel was surprisingly pristine, considering it is next to the shore. good walks and activities near by- quading, shooting and archery- just visit the tourist informatrion nearby. basically i cant think of enough good words to describe this hotel. Spent two nights here with my sister and elderly father and in spite of poor weather had a lovely relaxing stay. Our room was enormous with sea view and we enjoyed watching the little ferry boats coming in and out. We ate in the hotel both evenings and had a wonderful meal on both occasions. As well as Christine and Graham all the staff were lovely and very attentive. Hope to come back before too long

In all conscience, how can anyone give this hotel four stars? Really! It's five-star all the way. A beautifully restored house in an unbetterable position by the lochside (only seconds away from the ferry), Hunters Quay is a little gem. The nothing-too-much-trouble attitude starts with the owners and spreads throughout the charming staff. Pre-prandial drinks and dinner are a friendly delight and the breakfasts legendary. Accommodation is comfortable, stylish and thoughtful. On this, a return visit, I was a little nervous to hear that one of the owners had taken over from the extremely successful chef, but standards of produce, cuisine and presentation are, if anything, better (with just marginally too much fondness for the sweet, but that's a matter of taste). Staggeringly good value all round, you won't find a finer place.

This 10 bedroom hotel is the best that there is. Christine & Graham make you feel like royalty from the moment you arrive. This hotel is spotless!!!!!!! The rooms are beautiful and very well appointed. This small mansion is in a perfect location and has parking. The food was fantastic and we were all rather disappointed that we were only staying here for one night before flying home. Breakfast like everything else here was great.
You feel @ home in an instant .....
Thanks Christine & Graham and all your staff for a grand finale to our trip. We did save the best for last :)

I have stayed in 3 different rooms on my visits , they have all been faultless--tasteful,comfortable & absolutely spotless. All the staff are attentive ,helpful& are very obviously happy to be part of a very efficient & well trained team. The hotel cuisine is exceptional ; perhaps surprisingly, breakfasts for me were the best of all! So often, quantity seems to come before quality....not here! Every item was top quality &superbly cooked & presented.

We recently stayed here along with my sister and her husband and were extremely impressed by what we found. Having decided on the hotel through previous tripadvisor reviews we were not disapointed! Christine, Graham and their staff have done a wonderful job of creating the perfect environment to relax in. The service and attention to detail can not be faulted. The food was delicious and always came to the table piping hot. We aplaud your hard work and thank you for an enjoyable stay. While the town itself has little to offer the area has a great deal, so do get out and about.
