A lovely spot for a hotel overlooking the water.
Our room was to the rear but overlooking the garden and trees, clean and comfortable.
We travelled with David Urquart and for the money we paid, this was a great value break.
The hotel was a little tired and in need of decoration but clean, tidy and comfortable.
The staff were very professional and smartly dressed and there was always someone available at reception to help, if you needed them.
The evening entertainment was good.
The food and service was good.

A group of 57 people who had connections to Dunoon and the Holy Loch were booked into the Glenmorag Hotel as part of a tour group arranged by Tenon Tours from Boston, MA.
The tour organizer had arranged for portage of 1 bag per person but this was apparently not understood by the staff so this service was not provide upon arrival. The staff had been having problems with the only very small elevator in the hotel but had not yet called for service. The elevator showed its problems during the arrival process and many of the group had to climb stairs to the upper floors as high as 3 with ground foor having no sleeping rooms. After several failures the elevator was shut down. This was with a person using a wheelchair on the 2nd floor. That person had to negotiate 5 flights of steep stairs to reach the ground floor. With no rooms available in the hotel due to heavy bookings for the Cowal Gathering, this person had to negotiate the stairs to rest at night and to come down in the morning for 3 days. The part necessary to fix the elevator was not available in the local area. The lesson learned is that this 3 story hotel should install at least one additional elevator to provide assistance to those who do not do stairs to evacuate the hotel when the current one elevator fails. Besides the wheelchair person there were at least 3 other people using canes who did not do well with the stairs.
The hotel staff tried to help all they could but their hands were tied by the engineering of a single elevator. The food service was good and delivered hot food on order from a simple menu. The food service team helped get the group and its bags down for departure. Management was aware that they needed at least one more elevator and would like to get two so that the staff could have one for service equipment and luggage.

Room Tip: If you can't do stairs try a different hotel.

What a disaster my wife is a wheelchair user as she cannot walk very far or climb stairs. Arrive late at the hotel to be informed that the lift was out of order. We made do for the first night as they promised us the lift would be fixed the next day. That afternoon we get back from a day's excursion and the lift still not fixed - I demanded that we be moved and the manager fixed this up for us. However the coach driver was very reluctant to pick us up from this new hotel so we had to return to the Glenmorag each time we went out (Glenmorag organised and paid these taxis for us). Reading previous reviews it now appears that the lift was out of order the week before!!

spent 4 night break with David Urquhart Our room(30) had a lovely view over the Clyde Cannot fault the room for cleanliness or comfort and the food selection was very good entertainment
provided every night was not great but did entertain. What happened to the 30 bob bar? The lift was off for the first couple of days which proved a problem for some of the elderly guests but credit to the Hotel they fixed it as quickly as they could. The only problem was shortage of staff but what was there worked extremely hard to keep up a high standard of service.(I understand half of the staff were transferred to Braemar for the Highland Games) This was about the fifth time we have visited this Hotel and see no reason not to make a return visit

My husband and I have been visiting this hotel for a number of years and for the price paid
have never had cause to complain, Just returned from a u drive deal, and again food good,
staff all very friendly lovely room overlooking the water, what a view.
What I want to say on this trip the lift was out of order,we are pensioners and our room was
on the second floor, we were able to navigate the stairs ok, but mostly pensioners staying
in hotel not all as able, so this was a big problem.
I think serious thought has to be given as to the state of this lift and something done quickly
as this will put a lot of people off going to the Glenmorag.
Again I will stress no complaints whatsoever re food, staff etc.

Room Tip: If possible ask for a front room

my Mother and her friends went on a club holiday to this 'hotel' . After a Journey of 9 hours on arrival, they found that their rooms were on the second floor and the lift was broken. Bear in mind that the group was made up of elderly people most of whom had mobility issues, my mom included. The assistant manageress was a waste of time and did not seem too bothered that the hotel had an unserviceable lift. My suspicion is they did not want to pay an engineers call out charge. 6 people were then told they had to move to another hotel to have a bed for the night. If it was not for the taxi driver, that one would have been unsuitable as well. The Lift was fixed THREE days after arriving, NOT ACCEPTABLE! Food was not edible, staff were insufficient in number, the entertainment rubbish. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE

Room Tip: Go to another hotel!

Mairi M M, Manager at Glenmorag Hotel, responded to this reviewResponded 16 September 2013

Due to the lift being out of order we then offered to book a few guests out and cover the cost due to having no Ground floor rooms and also arrangement for another hotel and transport over the 2 days so that this did not cause anymore disruption to their holiday. I was on shift that evening and we had taken all 3 coach loads of cases up by hand so that the guests did not have to carry and also I had explained when greeted tour that I was very sorry for the inconvenience caused and had the part ordered which would take 2 days and would keep everyone updated each day. This party had not specified any mobility issues until the coach had arrived and I helped as much as possible to get the fault rectified and had no complaints from the other tours in that week. I would like to apologies for any inconvenience caused but as was a mechanical fault we got the part shipped here as soon as possible.

I have stayed at the Glenmorag a few times now, always with a tour. It is, as Peter I says, a "tired hotel".This time we found a broken pane of glass in the window next to the lift, which broke down (again), a bedside lamp which could'nt be replaced, and a few other signs of it needing some tlc. But, and it is a big but, I could not fault the rooms otherwise. The radiator warmed it well enough, and the meals were excellent, and the waiting staff very assiduous ( well, apart from one person! he knows who he is!!). Overall, I did enjoy my stay, but it was from Friday to Monday, so that may have made it better than it might be for an extended stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a Clyde view-it really is marvellous to look over towards Greenock, along Victoria Parade...
