“Lovely weekend”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

We arrived at the hotel mid afternoon on Friday to a lovely warm welcome at reception, we had been allocated a room on the 3rd floor but as there is no lift, we were offered an alternative room on a lower floor, we chose to stay on the 3rd floor room as we knew the view would be lovely.
The Hotel its self is an old coaching inn, and is very homely, which I quite like.
The large stair way led us to the top floor and to our room .
From the window you could see rolling fields of sheep, trees and hill top houses, although not a big room, it was quite lovely and cosy, just what you need. There is an en suite shower room with toilet and sink, and the room also has tea and coffee making facilities. We decided to book a table in the Hotel restaurant for our evening meal which was lovely, although I would have liked to see some more traditional homely food on the menu. After our meal we popped through to the Hotel lounge, which also has a large outside seating courtyard, for a couple of drinks before heading back to our room.
After a comfortable night we headed down to breakfast, which is served in the larger dining room, there is a buffet table with cereals, fruit, prunes etc and self service tea and coffee or you can choose to order a full cooked breakfast, which we did.
We had left our dogs at home, but were glad to see that this Hotel is pet friendly :) which I think is great.

All the staff at this Hotel were lovely and made us feel very welcome.
We had a great weekend in a lovely traditional Hotel and cant wait to start planning our next trip.

Our room for 1 night when passing through Dunkeld was on the second floor - it was fairly large and ok (no lifts!) Breakfast again ok - served by young staff who although adequate could do with a bit of training in customer care - an item I requested was forgotten and the dining room was not busy- I asked again after a wait and eventually received it without a word!
I left a t shirt in the room when I checked out - I called when I arrived home - no cleaning staff there - I called again the next day - again reception had to ask the cleaner later, and the next day same thing but took my phone number - still waiting for someone to get back to me - surely someone else could have looked where I suggested?? I think I can say goodbye to my t shirt now! All a bit impersonal

Room Tip: Unless stairs aren't a problem don't go beyond the second floor!

We booked a weekend in this delightful traditional hotel. The hotel was very busy but the staff and owner appeared to take it all in their stride. Everyone was very friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. The room we were in was in the annex and was clean and comfortable, although it was a little tired in places. I must say however, considering the low price we paid for B&B, I have stayed in a lot worse having paid paying a lot more. We ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was very good, nothing too fancy, just well prepared fresh food made with fresh produce.

Well done to the owner and staff, we will definitely be back.

We turned off the main road to try Dunkeld on a whim and were we rewarded!
The Royal Dunkeld is dated (has no lift) but the food, ambiance and general comfort well surpassed its 3 star rating. The manager kindly offered to carry up our cases to the 3rd floor. Quiet though quirky room with lovely views over the rooftops of the old town. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Do eat in the hotel restaurant, the food is great and the service excellent. We had a drink outside in the courtyard and were alerted when our meal was ready in the cosy dining room. I had the best roast beef I've had in years, meat cooked just as requested. My friend had the sole and said it was really fresh and tasty. There is a special cheesecake menu alongside dessert menu and desserts should not be missed... The hot part of breakfast was freshly cooked to order and I even tried the very good porridge.
Parts of the decor and rooms have seen better days but one gets the impression that both the owners and the staff are doing everything they reasonably can to ensure (within the limitations) that your stay is as enjoyable as it can be.
The hotel has parking to the rear. Dunkeld is an interesting town to wander around- it has a new town park right in the center.

Comfortable and very friendly welcome, nothing was too much trouble. Very good breakfast, loads of choice, hot and cold and staff are knowledgeable about the local area. The kids were very happy in the informal atmosphere and there was a nice, relaxed beer garden at the rear.

This hotel is a part of the Main Street in a village which is charming. We were well received by the manageress who had everything ready and had us signed in very quickly. She was friendly and efficient throughout our two night stay. The bedroom was clean and well decorated although we had to remove a bag of rubbish left behind by the cleaner. On the other hand, we were going to a wedding one lunchtime and the room was cleaned in time for us to change. That was good. The hotel is old but well kept (except for the car park) although the debtor is a bit dark in places. The lounge needs lights on mostly. Breakfast was disappointing. We were greeted by two very efficient young people and service was good. At 8.20 on the first morning, they had fun out of kippers which were on the menu and they still didn't have them the next day. This reduced an already very limited menu. Then on day two, they had no Earl Grey tea either. Someone needs to shop.

Room Tip: No need. All should be fine.

Booked this hotel through Classic Britain on Dinner, Bed and Breakfast deal. Check in done well and everything explained including the dinner option. Room 105 on First Floor looking onto street, nice size and very clean. Residents lounge nice and big but like all older hotels looking dated, replacement tv would be good there and in rooms. Food very good, best soup I have had for long time, piping hot, mains large portions. Breakfast, good choice.
Very friendly staff and overall a very enjoyable experience.
