Clean room but a tired building. Friendly staff. Reasonable cost. Nice bar. Good beer. Very central. Limited free parking. Lots of doors and stairs to get to my room ....... which I didn't like, if there were a fire.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments. I am happy that your overall view of our hotel was good and you found our amenities to your liking.

I would just like to clear up the comment about the amount of stairs leading up to your room, we have fire escapes on every floor of the hotel which are clearly marked in the unlikely event of a fire taking place.

Kind Regards

Antony

At first glance looks a bit tired but the hotel is spotless and rooms have everything you need. Nice friendly bar and excellent breakfast.
Parking is limited but the staff are so helpful in directing you / keeping a space they take the stress out of the situation.

What a lovely hotel, perfect location, and staff that could help no more. If I'm ever in the area again just hope they have some vacancies! There was an excellant bar area which is parts of the local scene so that added to the atmosphere at night. Would thoroughly recommend!

The location is perfect 10 mins walk no hills to the station. It has a car park. Right in the centre of the town. We were there just for one night and found plenty of pubs and restaurants in the vicinity to satisfy our needs. One point, go down to the riverside, there looked to be some fantastic pubs and eating houses there. (Did not discover until the next day so must come back)
The rooms are clean and comfortable and what you would expect for the price. The bar is quite busy and the Manager very aimiable and helpful. Breakfast was good and probably right price at £7.50. I would stay again if I wanted something clean and central. No WOW factor and not expected.

Room Tip: I had room 6 which was ok

We stayed here en route back to the North of England after a sunny week in far Pembrokeshire; the hotel is very well-situated, right on the main square of the town, up the hill from the Castle and the brace of slightly more genteel hotels which are down there. However the Beaufort has lots of character and is clearly a hub of the real town's social life; even so it is a little run down and could do with some gentle refurb. Free car parking for guests is available at the back of the hotel. The staff were all very friendly and we were made welcome from the off. One point though; the website we used to book the rooms said Dogs Welcome but on arrival we were told that this policy had very recently been changed - but as our booking predated the change, our dog was still allowed to stay - so dog owners beware!

We had two twin rooms, one in the old part of the hotel and one , at some remove from it, in a newer annex. The older room was appreciably nicer than the newer one so try for the main building if you stay here. Rooms were small-ish and heading for basic, but realistically twins are not often among the best rooms in any hotel. We ate out, at a sunny riverside pub, but noted that there was a large dining area in the hotel so one might easily eat here if the weather isn't kind or you just don't fancy the wander about. The beds were comfortable but in our room, at least, they were what my son called 'laminated' (ie top of mattress had a clear plastic cover on it) which wasn't terribly encouraging or expressive of luxury! If you care about such things, there is free wifi in the public areas (it doesn't really 'stretch' to the rooms, alas) and the TVs seemed to struggle with the full complement of channels too. More importantly, both rooms seemed to have very thin walls and one could easily hear what was going on next door. Breakfast has to be paid for on top of the room rate - a modern twist I always find slightly disappointing - but was nevertheless delicious and bountiful, cooked to order and served by a helpful, friendly member of staff.

Checking out was straightforward and we could leave the car in the car park until we were ready to leave town, which was helpful. So if you are looking for a lively, friendly and unpretentious place to stay in Chepstow which is affordable and central this will fit the bill.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the old part of the hotel ideally overlooking the town square - avoid the annex if...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments.
I would just like to address a few issues that you raised. Our policy has recently changed regarding dogs staying in our rooms but I can assure all guests who have already made a reservation with us to include their dogs prior to this change that we will honour their bookings.

As for the use of 'plastic covers' on top of our mattresses, I have raised this issue with our chambermaids and this is no longer the case.

We have recently updated our Wifi so each room can now connect to it in their rooms. We are also addressing the issues regarding the amount of channels our TV's are receiving.

I am glad you enjoyed our breakfast and like many hotels nowadays we like to give our guests the option of breakfast which is why it is priced separately to the room booking.

I am certain that if you were to return to stay with us again in the future you would be happy with the changes made.

Kind Regards

Antony

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel. We were extremely satisfied with the service, the staff were all very friendly, and for those who are commenting, on the decor of the premises, please remember it is an extremely old building! The food was excellent, and I felt guilty at not being able to eat all of the ribeye steak (Please forgive me Chef). All in all an enjoyable experience. Thanks to all at the Beaufort.
