“If you love golf you will like this hotel”
Reviewed 19 July 2012

Stayed here for one night and ate dinner in the Zest restaurant. The hotel is situated away from main town and you would need a car or use a taxi service to get there. Set on golf course and had a leisure centre next door.
My room was on lower floor of main hotel although you have to go outside to get to rooms, no offer of help with luggage and there was quite a few steps and stairs. The corridor smelt of damp which was not particularly nice. My room did not smell and was usual Marriott style and had everything i needed, lots of power sockets and lovely comfy bed.
Wifi not available and where it was it was chargeable extra, phone signal was not good so wifi should have been free.
Ate dinner in the Zest restaurant and it was mediocre, the service was very slow and first course took 45 minutes to be served, no apology or bread served whilst I was waiting. The dessert choices were limited and not very inspiring. The drinks were very expensive as was the food however if food served well and good quality then it would have been worth the price. Drinks well, just profit for hotel as they have a captive audience. The trophy bar and Zest restaurant had different styles but nice ambiance.
Decided to have breakfast in my room and again mediocre, served late and toast was just hot bread, it was £14.95 plus £3.00 tray charge so not cheap.
There is lots of car parking but not immediately outside hotel door so expect a short walk in all weathers.
So really depends what you need for a hotel, is it connected to a golf day and use of leisure facilities then you will be pleased and not worry about food etc. If you just doing overnight on business then maybe eat somewhere else and get a breakfast to go. If you are on a budget then look for a deal otherwise it will be pricey. If you want to visit places in the local area then maybe stay in Chepstow town centre and enjoy the river. Do your research before you go here.

Room Tip: Lots of stairs so book your room in advance with reception if you will struggle getting around or ha...

We only spent one night at the St. Pierre and are not golfers so I can only give a short review. I used to go to the hotel as a child to swim in the pool and thankfully it's ownership by Marriott has only served to improve this lovely hotel. The accommodation is split between the main 'house', courtyard duplex rooms and a little 'drive' with more duplex rooms and 'cabin' rooms. We had a lovely cabin room overlooking a lake and the golf course. Room service comes on a sort of golf buggy as it's a little walk from the main hotel. We had a lovely decking balcony over the water to sit and contemplate the scenery.
We ate in the less formal Zest lounge and bar. Good but not special. Had we not had teenagers with us we would probably have gone for Morgans which I believe is much classier.
Staff are friendly and helpful.
This really is a hotel for golfers and those using the spa facilities neither of which we did.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Visit Chepstow castle.

Went with a party of golfers and the course is quite good. The restaurant food was some of the worst I have ever tasted, wine prices were ridiculously high and the bar selection very poor. There is no real beer and in a place charging this much it is very disappointing. Rooms appear quite good but when you look at the lack of cleanliness around the bath and toilet you feel pretty let down not to say disgusted. At best a 1 star resort and do not eat there. Breakfast was very poor standard as well. I have never seen pure white scrambled eggs before - did not try them however. Management needs to improve a lot if this is Marriott's best!

It looked like a pretty good hotel: not cheap, but how how many hotels resemble a genuine medieval castle? Everything went reasonably well until breakfast, which provided the standard range of Lidl-quality museli, juices and range of dome-lidded stainless vats of cooked bacon, etc.

One stand-out feature was a chef preparing eggs 'as you like them'. Excellent idea....until I asked if the eggs in question were free-range. The cook replied dead-pan, 'No, they're not'.

What, intensive battery eggs in 2012? You've got to be kidding! But, no, she wasn't. Where do they find them, as most supermarkets no longer sell them?

Disappointed, I went looking for the butter, only to find the bowl empty. And marmalade? No, they'd run out.

I checked out rather grumpily, accidentally leaving a couple of items of clothing in my room. On returning home, I called the hotel and was put through to 'lost property'. The lady double-checked, but nothing had been handed in.

So, this is a hotel that not only serves battery eggs and might not have marmalade and butter with breakfast, but where one's clothes might 'disappear' if you forget to take them with you.

Great, eh? Strange that other Trip Advisor reviewers have had similarly poor experiences.

Stayed in a junior suite at the Marriott St Pierre for a short break in early July 2012. While the hotel and grounds are very attractive and pleasant there were a couple of downsides and notably the restaurant and the bat infested swimming pool. The meal was amongst the worst I've ever eaten in a hotel and not cheap for the poor quality of the meal. The pool area had a bat infestation and we literally had to duck beneath them as they flew around our heads, even diving down to drink the pool water.

Went to stay at this so called exclusive golf resort and spa, well how disappointing for me and my wife. Our room was on some kind of housing estate they had built around the back of the main hotel and was just like driving onto a local council estate really. If this is the best they could offer I will definatley being staying elsewhere in future.

Room Tip: Make sure you let them know you want the main builing accommidation
