“Fantastic campsite!”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

A fantastic campsite! Superb views, decent and clean facilities and each pitch has its own firepit. There are many lovely walks from the campsite - we particularly liked the easy walk to Tintern Abbey and the lovely Anchor pub. We thoroughly recommend!

Just spent a terrific weekend here on the recommendation of my daughter. Hidden miles from anywhere with woodland and meadows all around this is a back to nature campsite for mainly groups of families and friends of the non raucous kind. Lots of canvas bell tents and VW campervans and modest caravans. Very few large vehicles and only two statics that are rented out. There was a real buzz of happy people around really enjoying themselves. It is quite a large site overlooking the wonderful Wye valley with fantastic views but because parts of it slope some areas are not useable except for play. You can ask for a quiet area, a woody area, a view area, a large group area or whatever and they will try to meet your needs. Let's say that the best spots are booked up months ahead but nowhere will disappoint. Apart from the fabulous location and view a couple of other things make it special. Fire pits are allowed and wood is sold. Policing and rules exist but managed with a gentle hand. No irritating notices. Noise is supposed to die down at 10 pm but then most people have young children who need their sleep. I would expect that those who were a bit noisy would get reminded by their neighbours if not the site owners. They are Eco friendly with an emphasis on recycling and respect for the forest. The place was also clean and tidy but not oppressively so. There are plenty of loos but only two showers per sex. The portacabin loos were however a very tight fit. There is no shop per se but a few basic items can be obtained. Eggs for example, the establishment is, it should be emphasised a working farm. Rates are reasonable and some hookups available. I got the feeling the place was developing and improving maintaining the desired ethos. There are a few negatives and mainly not related to the camping experience. Firstly the website is hopeless. I could not read it with black writing on dark background. It also isn't very clear and there is limited information. Secondly the booking system is a bit iffy. I left a message for them on UK campsites email but was told they never check it or it's the wrong email which means my message did not reach them. They need seriously to sort that. Much of the booking is preferred by text which I found tedious. The facilities though clean are limited. They need more showers and better purpose built loos. Otherwise staff were friendly and helpful and I had a really good time. We will certainly go again.

Room Tip: Lots of friends or family then ask for the events field. Lots of walking and nice pubs around.
