We ended up here because it was virtually the only b&b in Hay that would accommodate a small group for one night over a summer weekend. Only The Start was the other location which would do single night stays and they were fully booked. We were a little reluctant to book the Firs because there were lots of notices in the entrance area and dining room instructing guests not to do this, make sure you do this etc, and we wondered what it would be like to stay there.
As it turned out it was perfectly fine. The location was excellent, in the centre but tucked away, with plenty of parking. 2 of our party shared the annexe, which we quickly nicknamed the love shack (although they swear no canoodling took place!).
The owners were welcoming and helpful, and the room was fine, although the instructional notices continued in the bedrooms. The bedrooms were well furnished and included a fridge, which is a rare but welcome extra.
All in all the Firs was fine for a short break in Hay and have scored it higher than I ordinarily would
give because they accepted the single night stay. I would be quite happy to stay here again.
