This place is a 3 star but it seems a little tired even for that rating. There was a pervading smell of stale grease as we entered the place. The room (no 1) was adequate but a little antiquated and needs updating.
Staff were efficient but not over friendly
Cooked breakfast was quite good but no fruit except a bowl of apples!

Young, very friendly and helpful staff. The lounge is great to sit in reading a book whilst enjoying the warmth of the fire.

Good breakfast and evening meal quite satisfying. Would have no hesitation in staying again.

We visited here on a two night stay with breakfast and cream tea. For what we paid (£80) we were very impressed. It was a character filled building and the staff were friendly without being over the top.
We chose not to eat in the restaurant as there wasn't anything we fancied on the menu. The cooked breakfast however was spot on- no complaints what so ever. Service was great and we didn't have to wait. We also had some cereal of which there was plenty of choice- perhaps needed more of a fruit selection.
The parking isn't great here but that can't be helped.

We booked for a one night midweek stay courtesy of a Groupon deal. This included B&B (superior room) and dinner for two.

From the moment of arrival to our departure we were impressed with the service, the room and the food (both dinner and breakfast).

The room (no.3) positioned on a corner of the building at the front, was extremely spacious and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have had the pleasure of sleeping in. Although overlooking the main road into town the traffic noise was barely audible. The heating worked perfectly well and was most comfortable overall.

The food throughout was freshly made, piping hot, beautifully presented and delicious. The setting for both breakfast and dinner (separate dining rooms) was in keeping with the character of the hotel and was both spacious and light.

Had we not been on a groupon deal we would have been more than happy to pay the going rate and will certainly be coming back.

Amy, you and your staff are to be commended on running a welcoming establishment, thank you.

Stayed at the above hotel from 7-9 February. Whilst the room was clean and well presented the bathroom shower was broken and we were told it was on the list of things to be done. The room was cold and we had to ask for the radiator to be bled to warm the room up.
Staff were friendly and mostly helpful.
Restaurant food was reasonable but I felt a bit on the expensive side with not a great deal of choice. Breakfast was good with a better choice of food and other items such as cereal etc.
Would have to say this hotel is in need of some upgrading as quite outdated decor.
All in all I would probably not visit here again and was glad it was a groupon visit as I would expect normal prices would be expensive for this hotel if I had gone on an ordinary visit.
Village was worth a visit and nearby Hereford was lovely. Weather did not allow for us to visit nearby Brecon Beacons.

The evening in question was Ladies night for a group from Usk and Wye. We had an excellent welcome but it began to fall apart at the bar, they were unable to serve three of my requested drinks. The meal was spoilt by the fact that the main course (lamb) was served on cold plates, likewise the vegetables were also served in cold dishes. The lamb was tender and of good flavour which would have been so much improved served on a hot plate. The waiter serving our table thought he was serving beef! Staff training required I would say and better attention to detail a must.

I can only reiterate previous comments about this hotel.
The room was very dated and scruffy and the shower room was tiny and appeared to be in a cupboard. A 4ft 6inch bed (didn't know hotels still had those) was uncomfortable.
Arrived for breakfast at 9 (service is 8 to 9.30) all unoccupied tables had dirty cups ,dishes etc that had not been cleared and still hadn't been cleared when we left. There were no glasses., the juice jugs were empty and despite requesting a cup and saucer as my pot of tea had arrived several minutes earlier I had to go and find a clean one left on another table. The breakfast itself was ok.
I would not stay at this hotel again
