If you are lucky enough to be in Buxton on a vacation or business trip , just go into the Dome....go into the centre and look up and around at the architecture of this spectacular place. The university of Derby have taken a lot of time and effort not to destroy the integrity of this wonderful place. It's worth a look, and it you get a chance, try out the evening restaurant. It is run by the students studying at the catering college. excellent food and servcie at a good price too.

“Food Fare”
Reviewed 3 April 2012

Plenty of space and light to enjoy the tastes of the food fair. Rooms set aside for cheese tasting and talks were good idea.
Could have been better direction signs for these room and toilets.

“Students need more guidedance !”
Reviewed 16 March 2012

Had a lovely starter but had to ask for the butter on the table [all other tables had it on], main course came vegetables nearly raw, [ I do like to have my vegetables with a bit ] chicken over cooked. On no occassion were we asked if we would like water even though there were water glasses on the table. Sweets were very nice and you had a fantastic selection.
Overall the students did you an ok job, but after 6 month would have expected a few more people skills !! Or the tutors to check on the food more often, or get the students to taste then they will see there errors !!!!

“' Moving on'”
Reviewed 23 February 2012

As it is now I am unable to comment as I have not used the facilities it now offers. As it was before, the purpose of it when donated by the Duke of Devonshire, he himself used to house his 110 horse there for many years before passing it on for public use as a hospital. It served many years as this, the latter of which my brother, who after a fatal accident, spent many years there. When the announcement came that it was to close as a hospital brought many upsets, the staff lost their jobs, the patients who were used to their environment had to be disrupted and relatives were not given a choice and had to travel further distances to see their loved ones at a costly expense. This seemed to be such a disloyal thing to do on people with no power to do anything about it. the feelings were further battered when the proposal to build a leisure complex and hotel facilities on the very same site. Rich pickings for someone but not the ones that really mattered. For me
the dual thought of horses being there initially then a lot of people whose health was not as desireable as they would have liked, does not lend itself to the sort of venue that holds the sort of functions it caters for today and perhaps should be used for the nature for it was intended. The spa would have been good but for purposes it was intended without charging great prices, charity events and fairs are in keepping with raising awareness and cash for the things needed, information and help centre, and of course the much needed refreshment venue within the building are good ideas. the building itself, the fantastic large dome and the historical details connected with the building and surrounding areas are magnificant and well worth a visit, maybe sometime I will.

Had a very reasonable coffee and breakfast. Fast self-service cafe. Have not tried the college restaurant yet.
