Fantastic building worth a visit even just for the acoustics! The bistro serves great lunches and student prices too.

“see an engineering wonder”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 December 2012

This is a magnificent experience because the dome is so big and impressive. One of the biggest domes in the world and its free to go into it. Don't be put off by the fact that it is part of the university campus - access is easy and free.

“Amazing!”

A coffee in the Dome is a nice morning break to enjoy the history and the architecture in the midst of the college life. A stroll around reveals the interesting history of the Spa.

“The Dome at Buxton”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2012

Have been visiting the Dome at Buxton for many years and it never disappoints! It dominates the Peak District town and was taken over by the University of Derby some years ago. Prior to that it enjoyed many uses but since WW11 it became an orthopaedic hospital. It is the most amazing building and the acoustics are fabulous! It has an amazing pendulum clock at the centre of the Dome which I believe was dedicated by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall and the basement now houses a magnificent Spa and beauty salon. There is a cafeteria on the ground floor and a high quality restaurant upstairs (booking essential). Well worth a visit to admire the structure and craftsmanship of this stunning building
