“Staff need to act a little more professional”
Reviewed 18 August 2011

The food is great, the beer is great and the place is great. Some of the staff just seem to lack a little maturity and professionalism which may just be an age thing. Well worth a visit we will be back.

“Average”
Reviewed 9 August 2011

We arrived rather late to the hotel and wasn't sure that we would have enough time before other restaurants closed in town, so we decided to eat at the hotel.

The restaurant closes at 9, and we got there at ten to. The staff was nice and since there were only one other couple we got our food real quick. The food was ok, prices too. There were no problems when we wanted to split the bill between us.

The interior isn't too much fun with white walls and windows towards the backside of the hotel.

We also tried the bar later on and found a wide selection of beer, and also real ale. The bartender was nice. Happy hour had very reasonable prices, but unfortunately we missed it (it was before 10 p.m.).

“Eclectic menu, good value”
Reviewed 29 July 2011

Ramsay's Restaurant is situated in the Buckingham Hotel. The hotel is being upgraded and is covered in scaffolding, but don't be put off. The lengthy menu is, to say the least, eclectic, with dishes from every part of the world. This implies a substantial frozen content, but the fresh vegetables were perfectly cooked and the prices moderate. Service good and friendly. The hotel is situated just beyond the Pavilion. It's only 3 minutes from the Opera House, but out of the crowds and next to a car park. Part of this is locked in the evening, so take care.

“The biggest selection of real ale, lager and spirits in Buxton I have found”
Reviewed 20 July 2011

Ramsay's bar is worth a visit just to taste some of the whiskeys they have on offer. There is also an excellent selection of well kept real ale, world beers and wine. We have only ever eaten in the bar which we love due to it's rustic informal atmosphere where the menu is the same as the restaurant which is excellent value for money. Don't expect to be blown away if you expect fine dining and stuffy hotel service, this place isn't pretentious and neither is the food but it is good, honest and friendly. Oh and it's also very quirky which in a world of sanitised faceless hotels with absolutely no atmosphere can only be a positive thing.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed 18 July 2011

Very disappointed, only 3 real ales on (there was better choice in the Weatherspoons on the other side of town), no atmosphere, drunk youth asleep on a table, smelt of disinfectant.
