It's my second visit to the palace hotel. It has such character both inside and out. Had a wonderful leisure break weekend. Food was good, service was excellent and the hotel is perfectly located for the delights of Buxton. Room was clean and perfectly adequate. Yes the decor needs a bit of tlc but if it's a modern hotel you want then book a modern hotel!!!!

Spent a good break here for one night as part of a offer.
Staff were very welcoming and helpful from start to finish. Dinner bed and breakfast with free bottle of wine so couldn't complaint at £99
Hotel is in need of some refurbishment but a great location and look very imposing.
It was very clean and it’s condition although not 4 star didn't spoil the weekend.

One criticism was that the dinning room is freezing and it looks like this is always the case so why they can't get some heaters in is a mystery Take a coat if you go.

Great cocktails at the Monks Bar

We had a lovely time here in October, the breakfst was of a very high standard, the rooms were comfortable and we have comfy beds with a good nights sleep. Yes the hotel is tired in areas especially the bathroom and the lift was a bit kranky.
The swimming pool was very small and freezing didnt enjoy that, the gym looked nice and the sauna and steam room. Very good location in Buxton . There were some previous reviews saying that you had the pay for car parking at the hotel we didnt encounter this but I suppose if you were travelling on a Groupon voucher this could be the case. Beautiful building and grounds.

We appreciate the time your have taken to review your stay, seemingly an enjoyable stay with exception to a couple of areas which I hope we can compensate for on your return next time.
Glad you were able to enjoy Buxton and all it has to offer, we look forward to your next stay in the area.

Many Thanks

An air of fading grandeur greeted me from the moment I walked into the foyer of this once-grand hotel. The creaking lift up to the third floor, if anything, accentuated this impression. Walking along the wide, bare corridors reminded me of a scene from The Shining. On the floor outside my room were two plastic bowls which appeared to be permanent fixtures collecting a steady drip of water from the ceiling above.
My room ( a twin) was clean and quite large but continued the feeling of dilapidation especially with a patch of black mould in the bathroom.
Having said all this, the breakfast was excellent even though it was difficult to locate the food which appeared to be distributed around the dining-room in a rather random manner. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the meals were of an acceptable, if not imaginative, standard. Finally it does seem extraordinary to have a complimentary bottle of Highland Spring water in the bedroom of a hotel in Buxton.

Room Tip: Suggest avoiding rooms on the third floor if mine was anything to go by.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent stay at The Palace, areas of concern are in progress and as soon as Buxton water gets released in glass bottles a change may be made.

We stayed on Sunday the 27th for an overnight "relaxation break" in a double room package including evening meal, breakfast and aromatherapy massage. Our room was comfortable, clean, warm, peaceful and very roomy (room 302) however the bathroom could do with modernisation. The hotel itself, whilst admittedly requiring some TLC in places, was magnificent, and overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were excellent and very friendly and helpful, and the food also was excellent (choice, quality and service). The position of the hotel was excellent for sight seeing and the opera house, and a bonus that they allow dogs (we will take ours next time). would have expected to have Buxton bottled spring water in the room instead of Highland Spring water! especially as the brochure stated they pride themselves on supporting local food business etc?

I believe Buxton water is being released in glass bottles in the near future, the change will be made directly after the launch, thank you for your great comments regarding your stay. Seemingly a relaxing and enjoyable stay, the team definately take pride in the hotel and all that the character has to offer to the guest.

Many Thanks
