had a 2 night break over valentines weekend and pleasantly surprised. Lovely traditional hotel, quality furnishings and touches. Comfortable room with all the extras you could need. Best part of the stay though were all the staff, so helpful, friendly & obviously they enjoy working here. Breakfast was great, huge choice of fresh fruits, yoghurts, pastries & cereals followed by full english, fish or cold meats & cheeses...lovely! Really enjoyed our stay and will be back if we head for Buxton again.

When checking in there seems to be a problem with my room, receptionist had to run upstairs to ensure that there wasnt anyone in the room as it appeared to be allocated, I was given room 17 - which is up a small stair from the main corridor, nice outlook and large room, plenty of clean towels and toiletries and free WIFI!

Ceiling in the main corridors have been taken down but this is explained via a note left on the bed, something to do with water pressure.

Dining room is in the conservatory, which can be cold in the evening, so be prepared! Fish & chips was a big portion, the rest of the party had no complaints about their food, after the meal we asked if we could have coffee in the bar/lounge and this was set up for us in a private room just off the bar which was very nice.

Breakfast can be continental or hot, usual cereal/juice/fruit set up and help yourself

Hotel is well located for a short walk down hill to the centre of Buxton.

Room Tip: room 16 & 17 appear to be larger than others

We were delighted to have welcomed you to our hotel last week and I am aware that our operations manager enjoyed her short conversations with you both on arrival and during the evening. Furthermore after a conversation with our receptionist she had chosen to allocate you a larger bedroom which she wanted to double-check following the late check-out of a previous guest. Please be assured there was no problem with the allocation.

Our letter in every guest bedroom both explains and apologises for any inconvenience due to the current works being undertaken in the hotel. The main corridor ceilings are currently being underdrawn following the installation of over 900metres of pipework to pressurise our water systems so as to give our valued customers a much enhanced shower/bathing experience. The pressurisation will be completed by 24th February. This follows on from an all new gymnasium, new public area carpeting, lounge redecoration with new soft furnishings and several new bathrooms and bedrooms in recent months. All this is in keeping with our Georgian building at the heart of a conservation area. These projects form an integral part of the continual programme of refurbishment and investment in our property of which our entire team is proud and this is similarly recognised by our many first-time and repeat visitors.

We were delighted to have had so many in our restaurant on the evening you dined with us and despite the ferocious rain and wind outside the ambience within our conservatory restaurant was ‘very comfortable’, ‘warm’, ‘good food’, ‘professional, attentive service’ and this as expressed to us by a number of diners both directly and through this and other mediums.

We always particularly welcome comment at the time since being independently owned and operated we recognise the individuality of our guests and their specific requirements as all the team here strive both to meet and exceed our customer expectations whilst with us.

The entire team here look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back

Yours Sincerely

John Millican

Just returned from a short break at this lovely hotel. Unfortunately, my husband became ill (nothing to do with the hotel) and had to be taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital. The staff at the hotel could not have been more helpful at what was a very worrying time, which thankfully turned out okay. The hotel itself is well run and in a great location with great views and easy access to everything in Buxton. The room was clean, and the king size bed extremely comfortable. There was plenty of choice at breakfast with good quality ingredients. Dinner in the restaurant was also a good experience - the food was delicious and plentiful and again the staff were attentive and made the night. We stayed on Valentine's night and the hotel had gone to such a lot of trouble to make the event special, including putting out a red carpet outside (even though the weather was not good). Will definitely be back to enjoy their hospitality again and hope this time not to enjoy the delights of A & E at the same time!

We arrived in the middle of a storm and were running a little late for the theatre. We were greeted by courteous and helpful staff who made sure that we not only enjoyed a lovely evening meal but also got to the theatre on time. The room was spacious and clean and the bed huge and extremely comfortable. There was a wide and varied breakfast selection and everything was fresh and of high quality. The cooked breakfast is cooked to order which makes you realise how much better it tastes than the self service option adopted by so many hotels. The hotel is also dog friendly and made a huge fuss of our small dog, being a seasoned traveller I can honestly say this was the best hotel experience I have had and we will definitely be returning soon.

Good hotel in pleasant location but still walking distance from Buxton town centre. Victorian building of character. Room smart and clean, beds comfortable. Staff courteous and helpful and good breakfast. Not cheap, but it's something actually to get what you pay for.
