“Quirky and enchanting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 January 2014

An old-fashioned hotel in many ways, with narrow corridors and a bit of a chintzy feel, but great service, well maintained and very comfortable. I imagine every room is unique, but not in a pretentious way. The floors creak and are charmingly uneven. The staff were very helpful and attentive.

Recently stayed here overnight at the weekend.

Room overlooked the park, and was slightly noisy at pub throw-out time, but nothing too drastic

Room was clean, warm and nothing to complain about.

We had a bite to eat at lunchtime, and this was very good value and excellent amount of good quality food

we would recommend this hotel for anyone wanting an overnight stay in Buxton

We recently booked the Old Hall in Buxton as we were visiting the Opera House in Buxton. The Old Hall is situated just across the road from the Opera House so was very convenient. It's a lovely old building, quietly situated with ample car parking although this is not free, however if staying in the hotel it only costs £3 for the day so not too much of a problem. This stay was part of a Christmas present which included the Joe Loss Orchestra being on at the Opera House. My husband booked an executive room and on arrival we were told that the room originally allocated to us could not be used as the previous guests had been smoking and the room required deep cleaning. The alternative room was on the top floor, a large spacious room with super king size bed, small sofa and two easy chairs. The bathroom was well equiped with large fluffy towels and the usual toiletries of a good quality. As you might imagine a building of this age, dating back to the 1400's had no double glazing and creaking floor boards, unfortunately due to the condensation on the windows we were unable to enjoy the lovely view of the park, however this was not too much of a problem. I felt that alot of things were stored on the top floor including bags of laundry and a couple of baths which we assumed were to be fitted into other rooms. I did note that on the lower floor the corridor was wider and did seem nicer than the floor we were on. Obviously this didn't affect the room we were in and was just an observation, we would have preferred the lower floor and may well have been on that floor if the original room had been ready for us - we won't know this though. Breakfast the following morning was served in a very pleasant room and as we were travelling with friends a table for four was quickly given to us although all the tables had been set for two. There was a good choice with cereals, yogurt and fruit followed by a fairly extensive choice of cooked food. The staff were pleasant and helpful but unobtrusive.
Our friends stayed in a standard room and I must admit that I would have been quite disappointed if it had we have booked a standard room as it was really small.
We would go back to the Old Hall again it is seeped in history and in a nice position. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: The most spacious rooms are the executive rooms. Even the rooms on the front of the hotel ate quiet...

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review on Trip Advisor. The hotel is in a perfect location for guests who have tickets for the Opera House. I am sorry for any inconvenience caused with the room move on check in. There have recently been two rooms that have been refurbished on the second floor which is the reason for the baths that were left on the corridor. We hope to welcome you again very soon to our hotel.

A beautiful building with so much character and history.
Our room was lovely, spacious and warm with a good size bathroom. Pleasantly decorated and furnished. Even though our room was situated on the front, we were not disturbed by outside traffic noise or noise from other residents.
The hotel is perfectly situated within walking distance of the park, pavilion, theatre, bars, restaurants, market and shopping centre.
Friendly staff and attentive to our wishes made our anniversary memorable for us.
Nothing was too much trouble for them.
Our evening meal in the restaurant was excellent and the staff warm and friendly.
The food is locally sourced and was delicious! An excellent wine list to accompany a special meal.
We would love to visit here again.

Room Tip: Our room, 10 was excellent. We did not see any others.

Stayed for 1 night in January and had a fabulous time. The Old Hall is quaint and intimate, bursting with character and charm. The public areas are cosy and warm and my bedroom was comfortable and quiet. I've stayed in other hotels in Buxton but this one is by far the best.
