I booked the teaching room at Ravenstor YHA for my sister's hen do. We chose Ravenstor because of the beautiful setting (it has a lovely view and it is only a 10minute walk to Miller's Dale). The room is easily large to seat 20 people, decorated neutrally, with large windows overlooking the hills. The staff were very flexible in allowing us to put up bunting and other décor and incredibly helpful from the off: they spent time helping me to move furniture, getting the projector to work, and even acted as judges for our cupcake decorating competition! Thanks so much Team Ravenstor! Totally planning to come back for a walking holiday...

Im very pleased you enjoyed our Hostel Katy and that it worked well for your gathering over the weekend. I heard the cupcakes were amazing so we may ask you to come back and bake some more for our guests next time! Hope to see you around the hostel in the near future.

Arrived on a wet Saturday in June. Greeted by friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. Self catering facilities were good and the meals I saw for purchase looked great. Sun appeared and so I ate outside with great views across Litton Dale and with flower boxes all around. Rode the nearby Monsal trail the next day. Ideal for my requirements....cheap accommodation (shared dormitory) and great location!

Set in beautiful countryside , the hostel offers great opportunities to discover this fabulous part of Derbyshire. I was self-catering and the sunny eating area is superb. the only "one" sink and "one fridge" can make it tricky if you choose to eat at the same time as everybody else... but if you are not in a hurry , this is no problem at all... in fact, as one guest said..(hello Chris!). only one sink ... it does make people talk to one another! and it was a really friendly hostel. all the staff was welcoming and helpful.
if you happen to need to get-up in the night then ... do not request a room on the second floor! ... although the views are SUPERB!
there are no loos no showers on the second floor...could be a problem for some.
Reading what the previous review says.. "bus stop" YES ... but NOT if you happen to be hardly walking with a frame which is what happened while I stayed.
pulling a heavy suitcase and hardly being able to walk.... the "short walk" is actually rather long and then all bedrooms are upstairs.
so if handicapped, think twice.

all the rest of the facilities are great.
lounge area is large and comfortable
sitting outside looking at the view is great
children can run around very safely around the house
great stay
I will definitely go again

The hostel was beautifully located among fields, hills and the river Wye (I think). Most walking paths well within reach from the hostel premises. Hostel itself easy to reach from Buxton, bus stops right outside the gates. The staff were friendly especially Bernie who was kind enough to tailor the breakfast options to suit our needs. The rooms were clean, the service impeccable and the property on the whole was clean and well kept. For a property like this, could do with a cosier communal area like a library or a room with a firplace. Spent most time in the self catering kitchen as the room with its bright orange walls was warm and made for intimate conversations.
The place needs some stands in the small bath stalls to hold toiletries as the floor of the stalls tends to get flooded due to the high intensity showers. Overall my friends and I had a lovely time and would definitely recommend this hostel. Good job YHA Ravenstor :)

I stayed at Ravenstor with my two children, 16 and 13, over Feb 2014 half term. The staff were extremely friendly and the hostel was an excellent location. The meals were average, but hearty and warming. The self catering kitchen was very small and did get a bit busy in the morning, could do with some money being spent to enlarge this area. The bedrooms were comfortable but a little tired. All in all, good value, but the building needed a little love and attention.

The location is fabulous for walking, cycling the Monsal Trail and sightseeing. The hostel has a nice atmosphere with cosy lounge and log fire. The staff, as at all YHA hostels were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are basic, but you don't go to YHA to spend time in your room. The only downside was the self-catering kitchen which is well-enough kitted out but impossibly cramped and has an awkward layout.

I stayed at Ravenstor from 24th-26th January. The facilities were good, including drying room for wet walking gear and a place for muddy walking boots. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was very good. Highly recommended.
