Don't usually stay in independent hotels as they are an unknown quantity but really enjoyed my stay here. Absolutely spotless rooms, and I'm fussy! The location is perfect. Breakfast was great. Would recommend and stay again!

Great location front of hotel traffic free and facing park/lake. A few minutes walk from centre of Buxton. Road access to car park at rear of hotel (B&B only).
Nice en-suite double room (11) on 2nd floor. Good price with excellent Full English Breakfast included. Room in good decorative order, good shower, smallish TV but functional. Would definitely recommend to friends.

We have just returned from here and had a lovely weekend. We were in room 10 at the top, at the front overlooking the lake and gardens - beautiful, particularly as we were lucky enough to have the warmest sunniest weekend so far this year. The place is traditional and spotlessly clean. The room was nice with three windows, two overlooking the lake where we sat at the little table and chairs looking out. The bed was SOO comfortable (two singles put together so quite big). Furniture was pine. Very small flat screen tv but ok for us. Tea and coffee making facilities and hair dryer in drawer. The bathroom was large and the shower was good, only down point was the water was far too hot. Also there are two seats in front of the hotel on the Broad Walk where people and their dogs congregate from early morning til late at night - noisy if you want your windows open but not a problem if windows are shut, which quite honestly is 99% of the time in England - eh. The breakfast was delicious, cooked well and a nice atmosphere in the dining room. Drinks are available to purchase in the lounge - customers trusted to serve themselves, which was nice although we never used the service. Car parking is on site but limited. The staff are very friendly and helpful - the proprietor, the cleaners and the lady serving breakfast. The hotel is very close to everything, short walk to shops, bars and restaurants. We hit the week of "The Fringe" so lots going on and a lovely atmosphere. Buxton is well worth a visit and we would certainly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a garden view.

We have now stayed at the Westminster Hotel twice and will go again. The rooms on the fromt of the hotel overlooking the gardens are probably the best, but we had room 8 at the back, which was fine, just a little small for my husband who is tall - as the room is built into the eves. The bathrooms could do with some upgrading, but they are clean and have everything you need for a short break.
The breakfasts are cooked to order and are plentiful. My one criticism is that the coffee at breakfast is not so great, but everything else is good.

we were lucky to enjoy the two best rooms at this hotel - with lovely views over the gardens that led all the way to the town centre. Spacious rooms and reminders of a more gracious age all together! Bathroom could do with a larger shower caddy, and breakfast was a little hectic as a result of the small window of opportunity and food was not hot. it was a very pleasant breakfast however despite the above. Lovely situation and very relaxing as a destination.

Room Tip: front first floor rooms have beautiful views

My husband brought me here as a surprise to cheer me up as I am unwell and unable to leave the house much and I was not dissapointed.
The building itself is beautiful and is right opposite the park and pond. We had a friendly welcome on arrival and the lady explained where the room was, check out and breakfast. She also kindly offered to give us directions and a map to get around Buxton.
We were in room 9 on one of the upper floors. On entry, the room was small but really nice. Cosy, and inviting, we were both very pleased. The bathroom was spacious with a shower and a few basics like soap/shower gel/shampoo. There are tea and coffee facilities. The view from room 9 is on the side of the building, and it has beautiful views over the park and the pond which looked wonderful with snow still on the ground. After lunch out we returned for a nap. This is when we discovered the mattress was not very comfortable, they could really do with a new one, quite lumpy ad uneven. However this is just in the room we stayed in, we cannot comment on any of the others. We also heard other guests on the top floor being very noisy, but of course this is down to the other guests, not the hotel! They are the only little niggles we had and they didn't really affect our stay and we loved it.
We had a lovely Full English Breakfast in the morning, all freshly cooked to your liking and there was plenty of juices, fruits and cereal on offer. The dining room also over looks the park and pond so a lovely view whilst eating.
You can access the hotel by road at the back of the hotel where there is a small car park and there is also free parking on the street. You can also leave the hotel at the front and walk straight into the park. We will definitely return.

We stayed here in Feb 2013. The staff were friendly, but not too friendly, which we appreciated after a long car journey. The location is about 1 km close to the town centre along a very pretty walk. Because of this we got to see a beautiful part of Buxton we otherwise would not have. The room was pretty, spacious, well equipped. The breakfast was tasty and not too early. We would stay here again.
