“Really disappointing. Beautiful house in beautiful surroundings but ......”

The house is set in a beautiful area, fantastic views, and has great potential. But please don't advertise a "log burning stove" and then label it with instructions not to use it! Bits missing off bathroom taps, top bathroom has no towel rail or place to put shower gel etc. Not to mention the terrible noise the plumbing makes - solved by turning the cold tap on! Under unit lights in the kitchen really dirty but don't work anyway. Grubby furniture in the lounge.. As for the oven - black smoke belching out! The cleaner came in to deal with it and perfunctorily wiped it over. No better at all. Great pity as reviews in 2015 state that the house was spotlessly clean. Now it needs a thorough deep clean and some tlc with the dubious wiring sorted.

It's hard to know where to start, but let's go with rats! Night after night they clomped their way across the bedroom ceilings, disturbing our sleep. When I tried to contact someone, anyone, about this, I was met by a wall of silence. Never has our family stayed in such disappointing surroundings. 4* accomodation it is NOT. 1980s youth hostel, maybe. It was dirty, shoddy and very ill equipped. no tin opener, no toaster and a pair of someone else's pants in one of the cupboards. the list goes on and on.
As with other reviews, making contact with Hillmotts fitness, or leisure or finance, was nigh on impossible. Customer care, zero. PLEASE, PLEASE don't go there. It's a disgrace to the gorgeous Peak District.

“Disappointing stay in a house that has so much potential!”

Just back from a 4 night stay in the Manor House and although the house is large, warm and comfortable..it is not a luxury house.
10 of us were there for a family break and enjoyed ourselves as the kitchen was large, the living area was roomy and the kids loved the pool....there is plenty of room for more people. There is a games room but it is a bit tired and in need of tidying and refreshing.
Even considering the age of the property it is a bit neglected and has not been cleaned properly. We found cooked food in a very dirty cooker, mouse droppings in the cupboard under the sink (I realise it is in a rural area but you would think that the cleaner would have swept this away whilst cleaning before our arrival!), toothpaste on the sink, a lack of washing up bowl (but no plug..) etc etc...all signs of a lack of interest/ attention.
For a large house you would expect a large dining room....we ate our evening meals in the kitchen after the kids had had theirs..but if we all wanted to eat together then the only area was a dining area in the "conservatory" which is a little basic, cold and a bit grubby.
As the house has an AGA (as well as a dirty normal cooker) then it would be helpful if there was some info in the welcome folder with some instructions on how to cook in it - the welcome folder lacked a lot of information, especially basic info such as which of the 3 bins is for recycling, general rubbish etc....(none of the bins had any labels...).
During the stay I did email the owners with feedback and issues...and all I got back was a mail basically saying thanks..and nothing else! A sign that they are not interested in improving things for future customers.
Basically, if you want a comfortable large house, in a great rural location and are happy to do a bit of cleaning yourself then this house is ok...but if you are expecting a high quality, luxury house then you will be disappointed.

DO NOT BOOK ANY OF THESE PROPERTIES

We book all of the properties for a family get away. Upon arrival the cleaners children were playing in the pool. The property was not clean and very rundown as some of my photos show. There was food and dirt still on the floors.Mouldy food in the back of the sofa, unsafe wiring hanging down in the main lounge. We then went up stairs to the bedrooms to find dirty sheets stains on the carpet and damp in the bedrooms on the walls. The tiles in the bathroom were loose to walk on and frankly danerous for our children. The kitchen oven was filthy not even cleaned. Cob webbs on the walls next to the cupboards. The conservatory was dirty, full of mould and cob Webb's and dead fly's on the table and floor.
When we entered the swimming pool only 3 roof lights were working and the pool was filthy see the photo attached.
When we spoke to the representative with all of our concerns we were met with I will contact the owners and let the know.
We also asked to be contacted about our concerns while in the property to have no response at all. We drafted an email with photos to the owners (still waiting for a response) VERY POOR in my opinion.
We also had to leave a chair behind the front door on the first night as they had not left a key to lock up.

“Avoid avoid avoid owners don’t care”

We Hired all the cottages for the week with family please read other people’s reviews and don’t book the owners really don’t care we complained as soon as we arrived and no one helped or did anything it was dirty in every room , of every house , the pool has black mould in it , the ovens were burnt and had left over food in , the bbq was full of cigarette ends which were left by the cleaner who uses it as an ashtray. Swift retreat is dangerous the fire escape stairs leading to the property had no gate it was broken and lying on the floor so my sister could not say there with her 2yr old and had to move into the bigger house with us. We asked the housekeeper her response was it broke off in the wind. There was food in the sofas behind the sofas , The beds had hairs in them , and stains on the sheets the bathrooms had broken tiles and were not cleaned , none of the carpets had been hoovered. Robins nest and badgers wood are not suitable for any one who has children as they both have metal spiral staircases , we had to put the sofa in front to stop children falling down. The kitchen in Manor House has a tiny ridge that you can not see as you walk over to the dining room so my little boy hurt his foot along with other family members , the bar stools were unsafe , we didn’t eat in the conservatory as it was full of dead flies and dust. We had no key for the first night to lock the front door , we contacted the housekeeper who came round while we were out to say the key was in the back door , which it wasn’t they had forgot to give it to us. The floor in robins nest had a rug hiding broken floor boards, a wicker chicken hiding some badly burnt piping and flooring . One of the kitchen cupboards had mould inside and stunk awful . Not one of my family members enjoyed this holiday it was completely ruined, the photos on the website are not a true reflection to what it is like. The owners communicate with you while you are booking and once they have your money they will not respond by phone email or txt they do not care and should not be offering these houses as holiday lettings hugely disappointed please do not book here you will experience the same as many other people on here

“DON'T BOOK HERE!!! OWNERS ARE NOT INTERESTED IN LOOKING AFTER GUESTS!”

We booked the Manor House and Swifts Retreat for my hen party. Don't have many issues with the main house other than the neglected conservatory, however do not book Swift's Retreat if you want a decent weekend away!
We booked Swift's Retreat for the older members of the party so they had somewhere quiet to go back to and what a waste of money it was.
When we first booked we were promised single beds however, after booking, the description was changed on the website to having 1 king and 1 bunk. We weren't informed of the change and only found out from reading on the website. This was only the start of terrible communication from the owners and apparently nothing could be done to change this.
The bedrooms were tiny and dirty - not sure the cleaners had been in from the previous guests as there was hair in the corner of the room and old toiletries in the bathroom.
Having been advertised as recently refurbished we expected much better things than a broken gate with a dangerous hinge left in place, a hole in the bathroom ceiling covered by a Budweiser sign (which apparently Josh - the housekeeper - didn't notice was there!!), a scruffy bathroom, no TV despite there been on advertised on their website, and an unsightly, unmaintained property on the outside.
Upon our return I contacted the email address on the website expressing my concerns but had no reply. I then messaged Josh on an email address I had contacted him on previously which he responded to with a pathetic email saying he would look into things - not much use to us! I responded to his email with no further reply from him therefore tried a different email address and still no response.
Once they've got your money they obviously don't care about the service they deliver and how their ignorance is going to affect their future business.
It has the potential to be a lovely place but has been neglected by owners and staff who obviously aren't interested.
Please save your money and don't book here. I wanted to attach some photos to show the disgrace of the place but they haven't enabled this option on their reviews - obviously knowing what people have photographed!

What a great house, clean and modern, in an outstanding location, everything you need for a group away.
We had a week here and have already booked up for next year. Highly recommend this place, the house keeper will go the extra mile for any requests you want, 5 star, well done to the owner.
