Reaching this lovely gold mine of a place was quite an adventure...we reached the bottom of the hill the first time, did not see any signs or name board so turned around at the gate and went back to Lower Braille. On our second try we ventured through the open gate and drove up the steep hill and found ourselves at the wonderful family home of Hester and Edward Sale. A warm greeting from the gentle family dog, Fennel, and we knew we had selected the right place to lay our heads for the night.
We had booked a family room [three adults] so we were given the double room with the ensuite that leads onto the twin room through the cupboard door... it has been charmingly decorated and could be any young girls dream room... very much an Alice in Wonderland look to it!
The B&B has an eclectic feel and every nook and cranny is lovingly decorated - the window sills laden with beautiful pieces of English china and old treasures from the past. A huge library of well thumbed books means rainy days are also well taken care of...
The large family home is surrounded by rolling fields and the views are magnificent from every window and if you are lucky with good weather the walks around the home are quite breath taking too.
For our dinner that evening Edward recommended driving down the hill to the charming pub called the Norman Knight in Whichford [see review]. An excellent recommendation as we got the last table that night!
The next morning Hester cooked up a delicious English breakfast on the family AGA with all the produce from the area surrounding Mine Hill House. The vegetarian guest was also well looked after with croissants, yoghurt and fruits as well as an array of cereals and muesli.
My friends were lucky enough to stay on for one more night but I had to leave but would definitely return for a longer stay!
