“Didn't live up to expectations”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

I visited here in April 2014 after recommendations from a number of friends and family. I have to say, looking back it wasn't anywhere near as good as expected. Firstly the decor is very all over the place. My girlfriend described the dining room as a granny's living room due to the random decor.
The food was ok but not worth the price paid. This restaurant is more expensive than others in its class yet it has inferior food. I had a ribeye steak for main which cost around £24. It wasn't bad but wasn't any different to one you find at a chain pub for half the price. Other people said the food was ok but nothing special.
The service was hit and miss. The male host was very friendly and attentive, however some of the younger waitresses were grumpy and really need to cheer up.
Overall not a bad meal but I had been told by friends and family that it was a great place so expected better.

“Lovely food, as ever!”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

Having been away from the area, for nearly two years we decided to go back to Hylton's for a treat. Glad we did. Food was great, staff very friendly, and prices good. Will go back, when the opportunities arise.

“Super, top class restaurant in a country village”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

We have been here three or four time over the past few years and it is steadily improving.
The food is very good with decent sized portions, and the menu comprehensive - pub classic, table d'hôte, à la carte, steaks, etc. and you can mix and match. Wines are by the glass or bottle and there is a good draft beer selection - something for everyone!
It was quiet today, a Friday lunchtime (too quiet really) but I have known it bustling - I guess you have to go more often than us to get a feel for the best times.
We didn't stint ourselves - in fact we had some expensive items and a good bottle of wine. The bill inclusive of tip was £130.
The whole restaurant, bar and toilets are clean and well kept.
I recommend Hyltons at The Moon & Sixpence - have a day out in the country!

“Website misleading”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

Having looked at the menu on the website we booked a table for a Saturday evening. However, on arrival we were disappointed to find that the Table d'hote menu is not available at this time. Although the website states that the pub menu is not available on Saturday evenings there is no mention of the Table d'hote menu, so if funds are limited be aware of this. However, we did enjoy our meal and the service was good.
