My wife and I spent a wonderful week onboard Chieftain at the end of November and the most important takeaway we'd like to share is that you shouldn't be worried if you've never piloted a narrowboat before. We watched some YouTube videos, read the Considerate Boater's guide before we arrived and, with Mick's concise tutorial, it was a breeze.
Colin answered all of our dumb questions via email as we anxiously awaited our trip and was a tireless correspondent. He met us at the train, took us to the market to stock up and gave us the confidence to venture onto the canal.
Chieftain was a clean, comfortable and well maintained boat that gave us no trouble throughout despite our best efforts to get in a jam.
Bottom line: we would rent for Twyford Narrow Boats and recommend others do the same without hesitation.

We found that the accommodation on board the narrow boat was excellent. Comfortable, Clean and smart and very well equipped. Oxford Canal is pretty and had lots of interesting moorings. A highlight of the holiday was traveling onto the River Thames at Oxford for which the boat was fully supplied with the necessary safety gear. Canal and riverside pubs and restaurants were also good and numerous with the Great Western Arms at Aynho being the most memorable.

We have just returned from a weeks break on Chieftain. Everything was provided for us from nice fluffy towels, good bed linen to all the extras such as tea, coffee, salt and pepper, tea towels, washing up liquid, dishcloth and scourer. Lots of kitchen utensils, good fridge and inverter to power mobile phones. Bathrooms were good. But best of all the owners were the most helpful and kind people we have come across in the boating world. We have done narrowboat holidays for over thirty years and they really were helpful, informative and nothing was too much trouble. We swopped two of the crew half way through week and they supplied us with extra bedding and towels, advised about collecting keys/ dropping off extra car, places to visit, and great pub recommendations. Boat was clean, comfortable and easy to drive. Central heating worked well and we had a great holiday. Thoroughly recommended- but book early as only two or three boats.

For six first time canal boaters, the Dancing Duck provided an excellent one day experience this May Day bank holiday Sunday. Colin provided a comprehensive briefing upon our arrival, helped us to turn the boat around and waved us off down the canal in the Oxford direction. We set out to reach Aynho to have a liquid lunch at the excellent Great Western Arms (Sunday lunch looked v good), and this proved to be just the right distance for the day hire. The trip involves 3 locks in each direction so kept us busy and the countryside is pretty if not spectacular. The boat is well equipped for the day hire.

Great day out with friends for a birthday boat trip. We have done quite a few narrow boat day trips and this one was certainly the best. The location is great with lovely countryside and plenty of locks to keep things entertaining. The boats are very good condition and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

If you are looking around a few in this area then I can highly recommend giving these a try.
