Stayed there back in January for a weekend away with my husband.
Nice hotel friendly helpful staff, Room was really nice , spacious and clean.
Very nice surroundings and pleasant atmosphere ,we had lunch when we got there in the bar area and the it was was lovely but a little bit pricey.
We decided to have dinner in the hotel before going out for the evening , but prices were a little high for the evening meals but thought it would be worth the extra for a quiet meal in the hotel but sorry to say we were wrong the food was Ok but that is all I could say wasn't good value for money.Banbury is nice area and it is easy to get the train to Oxford from there which we did while we were there . would definitley stay there again if we in the area .

We stayed here last Thursday and were greeted by a very helpful and pleasant receptionist. the room are dated but what do you expect for a 500 year hotel and this kind of added to the atmosphere. Narrow passageways, uneven surface, up and down staircases, old décor, but on the whole ok for value for money. Breakfast was included and was just fine. We used the bar area for drinks and coffee but chose to eat elsewhere as the menu was a little sparse. We went across the road to a little shopping arcade and had a fantastic meal in a restaurant called the old auctioneer this is a little gem and same prices as Cromwell but more choice and cosy place, very clean..

Room Tip: not the attic although we didn't see the rooms access was narrow

This hotel is on a very busy, noisy road so if you're looking for an idyllic break outside of London (like I was) this is not it. The room we had was very roomy (superior double) but the bathroom was very old & worn & the window had been painted shut so the unpleasant, artificial small of cleaning product filled the whole room. It was clean enough & staff were pleasant enough but not good enough to recommend.
No left luggage at all so if you're travelling by train like us & have no where to put your bags you may find yourself heading home early!
Highlight was that the cooked breakfast was a good standard & the communal spaces pleasant.

Room Tip: Rooms at back may be quieter so ask if you're a light sleeper & want to be away from the roa...

I stayed here recently. Very central for shopping. Building is old and creaky but this just adds to the attraction. Superb value for money, breakfast was absolutely lovely, varied selection and full cooked option as well.Rooms are spacious and clean. Staff were very friendly and efficient. I would recommend and would stay again myself.

Stayed for 2 nights recently. Staff were very helpful & made you very welcome. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Rooms, although a touch on the small side, were clean and offered all the comforts. Would stay again without hesitation

I've stayed here before a few years back. Met a work colleague and had a few beers and a nice mixed grill.
The room was ok. Not pristine but ok.
Unfortunately till gone past 1am you could hear saws and hammering which when mentioned to staff they just said sorry there was work in the kitchen been done. Not acceptable at all if you have guests!!!!
Cooked breakfast was good. Would I stay again? Doubtful.

We spent 2 nights at the Cromwell in February. Remembering that the hotel was built some 500 years ago, one must remember that it is old, hallways are narrow, and the floors aren't totally level...and that's what adds to the charm! The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the lodge is very clean and well kept, and the whole experience was just darn quaint! Half a block away is the historic Reindeer Inn (google it).
We had a great time and really enjoyed the genuinely friendly folks at the lodge.
