“Back at The Manor again”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

We have been staying at The Manor in Yeovil for a number of years now when visiting family in the area, but now consider it is quite pricey and the standard is not as high as previously. We used to pay for B and B but then all has changed and when you book on line you later find that Breakfast is not included. Although the breakfasts are ideal, you can choose form their menu, we realise each time we have breakfast, drinks, or a snack, we must ask for a "chit" if the cost is to be put on our bill. On a number of occasions we have not been asked to sign a receipt and the last time, only after we had left we found an amount of £42 put to our room, which we did not believe was ours. Our own fault as we should have checked, but one to remember next time.

Staff are always friendly and rooms in the stable block are fine, although there is a very small double which we have had previously.

We have always been pleased with the food and often take the family to lunch whilst there. We did this again in May, but unfortunately my 93 year old father fell at the front door steps. He was a bit shocked but no bones broken luckily. I know it is an old building, but it is not disabled friendly. Once you are in the dining room, the only way to the toilets are either up steps, for ladies, or down steps for gentlemen. One to remember if you have elderly family.

We enjoy staying at The Manor because of its proximity to the town and will probably go back again next year, but the price may be a deciding factor.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the stable block on the right hand side. There is often a lot of noise on the lef...

Staff friendly and efficient. Rooms are clean and well appointed, although on the small side, and lighting not very bright. Took the evening meal promotion and enjoyed two quite adequate main courses for only £9.99. Breakfast bar has fresh fruit and pastries.
Have used this hotel before, and will continue to do so.

Room Tip: Ask for room in stables extension...quiet and easy to unload fro car to room

Just come back from my worst ever snack lunch. The Caesar Salad was very processed and clearly out of packets of some sort. The Steak Ciabatta was probably worse - virtually inedible. A mild complaint was virtually ignored with no feedback until pressed - should have gone straight to the manager and demanded a refund. At least there was not the customary wait to get served which we have now come to expect from the Manor. Long time before I go back for a meal.

Reccommend this hotel highly. Friendly service as soon as you step over the doorstep which makes you feel at home and well looked after and never tips over into being too much. Gives the whole hotel a really nice atmosphere and makes for a relaxed dining experience.

Food is excellent - Dinner was beautifully cooked presented and served with a good choice of wine to accompany and breakfast was lovely.

Altogether a lovely experience and I would definitely stay again.

Check in friendly enough, daily cleaning of the room seems ok but mould in the wardrobe, shower curtain and bath matt are a big problem, Dinner was hit & miss went down at 6.45pm and asked for a table of 2, although the restaurant was empty the waiter um'd and ar'd but found us a table, we assumed this was due to bookings later in the evening but we sat their for 2 1/2 hours and only 3 further tables came in, The restaurant was empty, there was clearly no bookings and we were hotel guests so why the drama finding us a table? The menu while limited did look appetising however both our 1st and 2nd choices for my wife & I were not available, in total about 8-10 main course dishes were out of stock, the food came out reasonably quick and was as expected which is ok. Coffee in the bar after wasn't as relaxing as we'd hoped, only 3 people sat in the bar yet there wasn't a single clean table, the coffee came which tasted nice but little touches like a saucer and a spoon were missed, The ambiance in the bar was crazy in one corner we had Radio 2 and Jo Whiley in another corner Dance music but this was ultimately drowned out by the conversation at the bar between the staff and a guest who worked for the same company - Advice for these guys be a little more discreet when discussing colleagues.
In my opinion The Manor has everything needed to be a great hotel but attention to detail and refinement are sorely lacking

Booked here with my partner and 4 month old son.
Absolutely loved it, the decor was beautiful, the food was really cheap and lovely, the room was a little warm, but we just left the window open, even though there was a wedding on we never heard anything.
Staff were really helpful, it was spectacularly clean, not a wrong word to say, so we are going back at Christmas :)

Booked in by friendly member of staff. Stayed in the annex Sables on the ground floor. Room, average. Bedding clean pillows lumpy. We stayed for dinner which was average as was the breakfast. Had to ask for a pot of tea as we were going to be served a cup with a tea bag in it. Wine was reasonably priced. It was loud everywhere as there was a wedding taking place during our stay. Central for Yeovil town centre. Cheap Hotel, you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: The Stable block is quieter than the main building.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Refurbished three years ago The Manor is located in the Somerset town of Yeovil with easy access via the A303. An Ideal base if visiting Yeovilton, Sherborne. Built in 1735 by local glover and merchant banker John Daniel, the house was known as Hendford House. After he passed away the house was rented out until 1927 when it became The Manor Hotel. A manor it may not be, but it is certainly elegant enough to be one. Its classical facade and porch are of warm, mellow stone, and to its long single wing, also of stone. It has a cheerful modern bar with scrubbed floorboards and pale beechwood furniture and fittings. Today the hotel is a firm favourite with locals and travellers alike. You will be assured of a very warm welcome and great hospitality. Yeovil is the ideal spot from which to explore Hardy's Wessex. Nearby attractions include Glastonbury Abbey. ... more   less
