We have been staying at The Manor in Yeovil for a number of years now when visiting family in the area, but now consider it is quite pricey and the standard is not as high as previously. We used to pay for B and B but then all has changed and when you book on line you later find that Breakfast is not included. Although the breakfasts are ideal, you can choose form their menu, we realise each time we have breakfast, drinks, or a snack, we must ask for a "chit" if the cost is to be put on our bill. On a number of occasions we have not been asked to sign a receipt and the last time, only after we had left we found an amount of £42 put to our room, which we did not believe was ours. Our own fault as we should have checked, but one to remember next time.
Staff are always friendly and rooms in the stable block are fine, although there is a very small double which we have had previously.
We have always been pleased with the food and often take the family to lunch whilst there. We did this again in May, but unfortunately my 93 year old father fell at the front door steps. He was a bit shocked but no bones broken luckily. I know it is an old building, but it is not disabled friendly. Once you are in the dining room, the only way to the toilets are either up steps, for ladies, or down steps for gentlemen. One to remember if you have elderly family.
We enjoy staying at The Manor because of its proximity to the town and will probably go back again next year, but the price may be a deciding factor.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Refurbished three years ago The Manor is located in the Somerset town of Yeovil with easy access via the A303. An Ideal base if visiting Yeovilton, Sherborne. Built in 1735 by local glover and merchant banker John Daniel, the house was known as Hendford House. After he passed away the house was rented out until 1927 when it became The Manor Hotel. A manor it may not be, but it is certainly elegant enough to be one. Its classical facade and porch are of warm, mellow stone, and to its long single wing, also of stone. It has a cheerful modern bar with scrubbed floorboards and pale beechwood furniture and fittings. Today the hotel is a firm favourite with locals and travellers alike. You will be assured of a very warm welcome and great hospitality. Yeovil is the ideal spot from which to explore Hardy's Wessex. Nearby attractions include Glastonbury Abbey. ... more less
