“Great little place”
Reviewed 26 April 2013

This location is just inland from Brighton and Worthing in a lovely village of character. We arrived for a 1 night stay in Friday night happy hour. This pub was buzzing and it was fortunate that we had booked a table as it was still busy 3 hours later.
The room had been recently renovated and was comfortable and fresh with little touches that made it a little special. A few chocolates and nice toiletries.
The meal was excellent and good value. Was a bit concerned when going to bed that it might be noisy but the pub cleared out and the village was quiet. Although the village did wake up early !!
Breakfast was delicious and filling for the rest of the day. We only stayed one night but for longer stays there is an Indian restaurant in the car park.

This was our second visit to the Village House. We stayed in the four poster bedroom which was very comfortable.

The place has a lot of charm and dates back to the 1500's. The bar was welcoming and had plenty of locals even though it was bitterly cold and snowing.

Our evening meal was absolutely amazing - fantastic pate to start followed by a steak which was cooked to perfection. The staff are welcoming and looked after us very well.

The bed was so comfortable I slept all night which is unusual for me.

Breakfast in the morning was freshly cooked and was delicious.

Wish we could have stayed longer, in fact we were hoping to get snowed in!

We stayed overnight, and got the four-poster room. Excellent - very comfy, with top quality linen, warm and no noise from the road or the bar. Excellent evening meal - very well cooked, and quality ingredients. Breakfast likewise - and the service throughout was faultless.
One minor gripes - (lack of) size of bath towels!

We made the mistake of ordering rump of lamb, normally the fish is pretty good but the chef does not do meat very well it was overcooked and the sauce seriously salty so most of it was left.

At the end when we complained they took £1, yes £1 off our bill so that shows you how sorry they were!!

If you do go there the fish is recommend choice.

This is a restaurant/hotel.bar in the village on Findon. It is very friendly, cosy and traditional, with lots of locals and dogs in the bar.

Our room was fine, quite small but that is fine, with all you would need. There was a strange smell in the room, either burnt plastic or something, we couldn't figure it out, but we got used to it and it wasn't an issue!

Staff very friendly. Standout for us was the food. Our meal Sat evening was amazing, all locally sourced produce, cooked to perfection. Breakfast the following day also first class. Lots of ale on tap, which pleased my hubby, and nice wine for me!

Also, it was one of the quietest places we have ever stayed, despite being above the bar.

Great value, would definitely go back.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Village House Coaching Inn is nestled in the newly formed South Downs National Park, at the heart of the picturesque downland village of Findon, near Worthing and was first mentioned by name in the 'Findon Chronicles' in 1527 when it became the property of a Mr Thomas Beret. Since then the building has seen many changes of use and has been a private house as well as a convalescent home for the well heeled of London (no change there then). In the 1930s the Village House became a guest house and tea room - a recently found advertisement dating from this time boasted of... en pension terms of 2 ½ guineas to 4 guineas per week-according to room and season... and... rooms with such modern conveniences as electric light. Today our rooms still retain their old world charm and atmosphere, but we try to offer a little more luxury than in the 1930s. If you love walking, we are ideally located for both the South Downs and Monarchs Way, which both offer fantastic views across the south downs and Sussex coast. If golf is your passion there are two challenging golf courses nearby, or if it's horse racing, then Fontwell and Goodwood racecourses are within easy distance. Findon is also the home of the Gifford Racing Stables who produced the famous Grand National winner, Aldaniti. ... more   less
