This was a really unexpected pleasure, a friend booked the Sylvan for a reunion for a party of five of us, the restaurant itself is tucked away in the village of Findon and is well worth seeking out for a visit. The decor was very pleasing, service attentive and although we were the only diners in on a Friday lunchtime it had a really nice ambience. It was difficult to decide what to choose from the set menu which was very reasonably priced at £32 for three courses. We all selected something different and we were all pleased with our choices, the food was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. This is certainly the sort of place I would consider returning to for a special occasion.

We were celebrating a wedding anniversary and a birthday. The waitress asked us if we were there for anything special, and congratulated us. Made to feel welcome from the start. The food was excellent, just the right amounts, perfectly cooked, served by cheerful and efficient staff.

We took our friends who hadn't been before for Sunday lunch , I was a little concerned that as Sinan was at his new restaurant in Earlsfield that perhaps things might be a little different but we didn't need to worry at all! It was great, all 4 of us ate the 3 courses and thoroughly enjoyed the taste / presentation
Well done team for a great lunch!

We went there yesterday evening for my mom's birthday. The food was definitely above average but the snag list that came with it is unfortunately fairly long:

- My girlfriend ordered a starter with foie gras bruschetta. The bruschetta was here, not the foie gras (I told her to send it back to the kitchen as this is what sold her the starter but she is too nice a person to make a fuss)

- My starter included cheese which is supposed to be served hot but was cold. I sent it back to the kitchen where it was re-heated in a microwave (the salad was almost cooked when it came back)

- The wrong meal was served to my girlfriend so my mom and I were done by the time she was served what she ordered

- I ordered my beef blue, it was served medium

- Twice we ordered some bread, twice we had to wait about 10 minutes to have it

- The fancy ice-cream which was supposed to come with my desert had to be replaced by vanilla ice cream (vanilla, really?)

- The St Chinian was... well let's just say it was on par with the first prices wines you can get in the area of Beziers (where it comes from).

The quality of food was really nice (quality above average) but considering the premiums commanded for some of the dishes we ordered I can't say we were impressed by the overall experience.

Thank you for taking the time to comment in detail and for balancing your review with some positives. The only way we can improve is through customers such as yourself taking the time out of your day to provide well rounded feedback.

Firstly we offer our sincerest apologies for the items that you found unsatisfactory during the evening and hope that the following explanation will go some way towards making reparation. We've looked into the circumstances and must hold our hands up and admit that we had some problems on that evening. Whilst not wishing to try and minimise these occurrences, to a certain extent we find ourselves a victim of our own success here; to justify this extraordinary remark we need to provide some background detail by way of mitigation: On that particular evening we had only five reservations and expected the usual quiet (Wednesday) night. We engaged an appropriate number of staff and commenced service as normal. We then had an extraordinary number of customers walk in unannounced requesting tables. Normally we would politely turn away such custom, even though the restaurant looks empty; it is harder to do this when some of these clients know us well and had chosen that night to turn up knowing that we wouldn't be fully booked. To make things worse telephone appeals for more staff went unanswered and the management staffs were working at our other restaurant in South London.

This may go some way towards explaining why we were caught out in the kitchen but we should also state that because all our dishes are cooked to order there is an inevitable delay when a change of order occurs, especially if this is a meat dish that requires both cooking and settling time as a part of its preparation process. Unfortunately when one or two things go wrong at the outset these compound subsequent events and we end up with a “snag list”.

If you would like to visit us again, and mention this review, we would be happy to demonstrate that we are the sort of establishment that should be judged not on what happens when things go wrong but on how we react to put them right. So we very much hope to see you again and once again many thanks for the feedback.
