Having panned the place a few months ago it is only fair to report that food and service were back to the levels one would expect from PE. The whole place was buzzing, the accountants appear to have been kicked out of the kitchen, and whether it was the new manageress or something else, the whole staff seemed like they were on a mission.

There was myself and 3 adults along with 5 WELL BEHAVED children who arrived to eat at our pre booked table. We were looked after from the second we walked through the door and the waitress honestly couldn't do enough. She was very polite, patient and helpful and made an excellent effort to ensure she catered to our every need. Food was quick considering the variation of food and was delicious!!! Highly recommended.

Had a lovely meal, was able to get a table even though we had both reservations! Staff were friendly and accommodating. Great if you can get a discount or voucher, if not can be a bit expensive. However pizza express is a great place to go with children.

Came here as we'd taken advantage of the Sainsburys offer. We were met and seated and I asked the manager what the restrictions were on the vouchers. He said not a clue. I looked at him a while longer and then he asked me what the voucher terms and conditions said! Surely head office had been in contact with all restaurants to let them know about the promotion? no it doesn't look like it. Anyway, we ordered our meals after a waitress said it covered free pizzas. The meals themselves were quite tasty, no complaints there whatsoever. When it came time for the bill, confusion ensued, the waiter trying to tell us that we could only use one voucher and would have to pay for one of the pizzas. We said we were only willing to pay for the drinks and then he went away, i expect to the manager. About 10 minutes later without any apologies for the wait, another revised bill was given to us. Apparently we had to pay an upgrade charge??? for some reason. Anyway, not wishing to make the situation any more prolonged we paid and left. The staff were quite pleasant, my complaint is that the manager had obviously not bothered to read his mailings! And as a result, his staff had to face the brunt of me moaning.

I typically spend Sundays with my partner as it’s the one day of the week where we can set aside our busy careers, gruelling fitness regimes and never-ending life admin to focus on enjoying ourselves and spending quality time together. By Sunday evening, we’re usually content but tired and hungry and looking for a bite to eat.

This week, we were on a strict budget as both of us have experienced big expenses recently so our thoughts turned to the chain restaurants since they usually have an offer available, making it possible to dine cheaply. Their operating scale allows them to squeeze margins tightly making continuous offers and discounts possible. We found an offer online for Pizza Express, three courses for £13.95 and decided to give it a go.

The Pizza Express in Worthing is tucked away down a short alley, and is quite a picturesque building. We asked for a quiet table, as from experience these type of restaurants are all hard surfaces and popular with families with young children, which can make them quite noisy for our tastes. The staff were happy to accommodate this request and gave us a table by the entrance, tucked away from everyone. That said, it was right by the kitchen so lots of shouting, banging and crashing – but on balance this was preferable to the crying baby in the main restaurant whose screams and shouts bounced off the tiled floors.

The deal we were taking advantage of allowed a restricted range of starters, then any salad, pizza or al forno dish, and for dessert either cheese cake, chocolate cake or ice cream. We chose mozzarella garlic bread to start, plus a tomato and mozzarella salad. The bread was served hot and was tasty and not too heavy. The tomatoes in the salad were fresh and had flavour, and were not the tasteless/ cold examples you can often find in restaurants. For our mains, we both chose Pollo Milanese which came with a small salad of undressed dry rocket, sun-dried tomatoes and parmesan, plus a small dip of pesto. The salad could have done with some dressing or a bit more bulk, but the chicken was served hot and was tasty. It wasn’t too greasy either. For dessert, we chose a cheese cake and chocolate fudge cake to share. The cheese cake was nice and not too sweet. The chocolate cake was very large (enough for two) and very sweet, but not that indulgent… rather, a waste of calories.

All our food arrived quickly though the staff did seem harassed and not very happy to be there. It is hard for these chains to convey much sense of hospitality or welcome. That said, this deal provided a lot of reasonable quality food at £13.95 a head, so definitely provided good value and we left happy and full.
