“Convenient but not special”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

Stayed here on business, and used the meeting room facilities.

The hotel room was a bit tired with 'textured' walls - a litte bit 80's. and the bed felt quite 'fragile' - there was a huge 'pillow eating' gap between the top of the bed and the headboard which was annoying.

Room furniture was fine, and the free wifi was speedy and easy to log onto - which is a very big plus.

Service in the bar was friendly and pleasant. Breakfast wasn't particularly good qualty, and the food we had for lunch in the meetings area was definately not great.

Service for meeting was friendly; but felt a little awkward - IT equipment arrived only 2 minutes before our meeting was due to start, no colour photocopying available. And everyone seemed very concerned about telling us that extra's would be chargeable - yes it's fine - i've said it once - it's still fine 4th time.

Note ... WE chose this venue bewcause it's close to the train station - but most of the group ended up alking around the hotel looking for the way in - so it's not very clearly signposted - be prepared to walk further than you think!

I am really sorry to hear that your stay was not up to your expectations. I have noted your comments and will be investigating the matter further as this is not the normal level of service we provide. Hope you give us another chance to serve you better in the future.

Plus points:
Central location to get into town is a breeze, lots of places to eat out, we asked for a firm mattress and got one, chef made breakfast for a wedding party and a coach party on one of our stays and it was a hot day - he is a star, check in and out is easy. We have stayed a few times as it is a good value hotel if you book in advance.

Minus points:
If you stay when there is a wedding and other large event happening you get pushed into a corner and suffer the noise of the revellers. Have been unlucky and had a very soft mattress resulting in poor sleep on a couple of occasions.

Overall: we have returned because of location, clean rooms, lovely full English breakfast, efficient staff and good parking.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same, free wifi in all rooms, you can ask to face town or car park, rooms near the...

I stay here at least once a month with work and it's actually an ok place to stay. Close to the city centre so you can escape the hotel and eat out. Parking can be tight but I have always get a spot. I find it better than the travelodge/ premier inn. Breakfast is good and the bar in the main lobby is a social place to meet for a drink.

Stayed here as part of a coach trip, so the price was all in and cannot comment on this hotels own prices.
The check in was swift and the room was spacious and more than adequate for a one night stay. Both evening meal and breakfast were buffet style, with (in my opinion) a good choice for both. If you wanted, for instance, your bacon well cooked at breakfast, then all you had to do was ask and they would do some for you. The staff were all friendly.
It was only a five minute walk to the city centre (so we were told), six of us used a taxi £7.

We stayed for one night and chose this hotel as a convenient meeting point as we were coming from 2 locations. It's only a few minutes walk from the train and bus station and has pubs, cafes and supermarkets nearby. The hotel is clean and modern with friendly and efficient staff. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed - I was particularly pleased with the shower as it had an overhead rain shower as well as the normal shower head, and was sensibly placed so that the bathroom didn't get soaked. There was a second inner door that could be closed which was great for lowering noise and light from the corridor. The only negative in my opinion was that the room was far too hot and could really have done with air-conditioning. We didn't have breakfast there as, like other reviewers, we thought it was way overpriced, but we did have a bar meal which was nicely presented and tasty.

We stayed for one night as attending a function nearby. Check in was efficient. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. Our rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. We didn't eat here as breakfast was in our opinion overpriced. Other than that a good value hotel with plenty of reasonably priced parking (£3.00 for 24 hours) which is a bonus when in a city centre.

I found this particular Novotel quite pleasant. The staff were friendly and the rooms comfortable and clean.

It's not too far a walk to get into town but it does mean you have to use subways (pedestrian) and this may not appeal to some later at night.

I had a good stay and would use again.
