It is unfortunate that the restaurant closes at 2100hrs and breakfast does not commence until 0700hrs. Web information available when booking states different times
An unfortunate bar staff interaction leading to a 5 min wait to be served when I was the only one waiting for service at the bar only compounded the negative experience.
If only the staff interaction had been as pleasant as that had with the cleaner on the morning of departure then this review would have been different
Not the standard of service I am used to from a Mercure establishment very disappointing

Stayed here last night with a group of friends. Overall a good hotel but in desperate need of updating, friendly greeting upon arrival and swift check in. Our room was spacious and clean, although did notice the odd cobweb! And very warm!! Breakfast was good, £8 if pre booked. Modern reception and bar areas, but the dining room is in desperate need of re-decorating, as I'm sure diners don't want to see scuffed and dirty wallpaper!! Cheap and cheerful for one night stays.

Many thanks for your comments - our restaurant is ear-marked for redecoration hopefully prior to Christmas and your comments about cobwebs have been passed to housekeeping - along with a feather duster

We had come with a coach party. Our evening meal was poor. Not a lot of choice. Our main course was like something you would get in a cheap cafe. The tables weren't set properly. And very poor service. We were presented with a water jug when we were eating our dessert!!! We also had to ask for cutlery. Decor could do with a freshen up. Not a pleasant stay at all.

In these competitive times, this hotel makes a good job of being all things to all customers. You may find your fellow guests are apprentices on a course (away from home for the first time, inclined to bang their doors at 2am, but they go home at the weekends.) Then there are the suited and booted types on business in Wolverhampton or at the business annex which is well equipped (I've used it on a previous visit.) At weekends there is a busy trade in family events and weddings - so it can be noisy. Rooms near the business annex are quieter, those facing the road are noisiest. I was impressed at how much maintenance and improvement has been carried out since I last visited. If you have mobility problems then ask for a level access room, as there is no lift and the place is a bit of a warren. If you can manage two or three steps, then there is plenty of room choice. I was with a group of senior guests, using the hotel as a jumping off point for exploring the picturesque towns of the Midlands - and the hotel is perfectly sited, with numerous medieval towns under an hour away. The food throughout our four-day stay was excellent, plenty of variety, served fresh and hot. and the menu always has meat, fish and vegetarian options for the main course. Breakfasts are buffet feasts, whether you want full English or continental options. If you want to use the small gym and the spa, it is a joy. Clean and peaceful. But the best thing about this hotel by far is the friendly, helpful staff. I mentioned that the hotel is still undergoing a discreet refurbishment, so check your room before you unpack and if you find anything not to your liking, my experience is that it will be quickly dealt with. If the naughty apprentices are running up and down, the night porter will deal with them. If you want your egg sunny side up, ask for it. This hotel is neither ultra modern nor characterful. It is honest-to-goodness value for money. It performs better than many three stars.

Room Tip: Rooms near the business annexe, or furthest away from reception, are quietest. Ask for a level acces...

We expected a usual three-star hotel, but this much better in several ways. Staff friendly and they try to be helpful. Building is a much-altered rabbit warren, mostly in good repair, though some things badly need attention (window frames in our room falling apart). Swimming pool, sauna, steam room - great! In good repair, unless you look at the ceiling. Food is good, slightly too pricey, but we chose to eat there each night because it was so pleasant. Our supposedly "quiet" room was next to a busy road. But these grumbles have to be kept in context - for a three-star, it's very good.

Stayed here this weekend to see a gig and for my 40th Birthday! Staff very friendly and allowed room 2hrs early.
Upgraded to a 4 poster room in the business annex which is nice and modern and comfortable.

Room hot (93) but given a fan which did the job.

All in All a nice friendly hotel near to the city centre, nothing to complain about really and I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Business annex is nice and modern

As a regular business user with Accor Group I booked this hotel and chose it for its location / price close to city centre as part of a leisure weekend. Room assigned ( 88 ) on arrival was in an annex ( Business Centre ) to the main building. First impressions were that room layout was good with all facilities required for an overnight stay. However we then experienced several problems that should really have been fixed prior to room allocation :-
1) Tilt and Turn tap in bathroom hand basin had operating lever broken off so tilt and twist was a pinch point for fingers.
2) Shower had little or no temperature regulation - cool or scalding !!!
3) Window in room had no locking facility despite street side access potential.
4) After breakfast and prior to checkout room lock failed so we could not re-enter room back to reception again - fault turned out to be use of budget batteries in locking mechanism.

All of the above was reported to reception but no maintenance was available early evening for the first 3 items. Clearly maintenance management is an issue !!

It's a pity because the bedroom and bed comfort were fine as is the Hotel location and breakfast was excellent with a good choice of freshly cooked food.

Having said the above we would probably use this hotel again but check room facilities before unpacking next time.

Room Tip: Check room facilities before unpacking. Rooms in main building have steep staircase to access all r...

Maintenance engineer on holiday during your stay but there is someone else who could have addressed the problems and I will speak to reception as there appears to have been a lack of communication throughout
