Having just returned from a two night stay at this hotel, I can honestly say how refreshing it was to see good staff, that were enthusiastic about their work and clearly caring that their guests enjoyed their staff.
The building (at least the historic part) has some beautiful features. It was a pleasure to see.
On arrival the receptionist admitted that a new member of staff had been looking after the bookings for a couple of days and that seemed to be why initially she was unable to find our reservation. However, that was quickly sorted and after consulting with house-keeping a deluxe room was allocated to us. This was spacious if perhaps not as well designed as it might have been (e.g. a second door to isolate the bedroom from the bathroom - where daylight drifted in through the windows that could not be shut out - and hallway - to reduce noise from other guests) and well decorated. However at midnight an horrendous noise from "machinery" woke us. It affected a number of other residents as well. But no bother - the night porter was excellent and arranged a move in a few minutes and a great night was had thereafter (albeit in a smaller "classic" room).
The second evening a wedding was booked and arrived rather boisterously and woke a number of residents when coming back to their rooms with loud behaviour as well as closing of the bedroom doors (which were exceptionally stiff and require maintenance). The reception was at least at the other end of the hotel (at least until the guests ventured into the gardens). Again however the staff are to be commended for having reported the nuisance, the disturbance was quelled in less than 15 minutes and a great night sleep was had thereafter.
The food at the hotel was excellent and with a good choice on the menu.
