“Can't complain for the money”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

We have friends in Wolverhampton so we stay in the city fairly often. Stayed here as it is close to where they live and it was their recommendation. We paid £50 for the room for one night. With this there is parking and continental breakfast included.

Check in was simple and the staff were very welcoming. IT is not a 24 hour hotel so we were informed of the code to get in later on, no problem at all with this. The rooms are up a couple of flights of stairs so watch out if you have mobility issues.

The room was large, clean and tastefully decorated. It is on a busy(ish) road (during day/evening hours anyway), so if you are a light sleeper and are not intending a latish night do inform on booking I suppose. It didn't bother me though at all even with the window open. Bathroom had complementary toiletries that I was not expecting at this price. A nice touch. You also get SKY TV in the room, with the superior rooms you can get the full package which is again a nice touch.

The dining area in the morning was comfortable. There are a small range of breakfast items, but for the price again you can't complain. Plenty of teas to choose from, darjeeling, assam, green etc. again a small detail, but at this price point it is a nice touch. Very friendly service by the girl on the desk also who pointed me in the right direction in my slightly hungover state!

Overall a nice stay. Being out of town I imagine you miss the worst of the lad and ladette groups, so if you are looking for a stay in Wolverhampton on the cheap but without this, come here. It is also close to some nice restaurants in Tettenhall and a lovely pub (New Hampton) around the corner on New Hampton Road.

When I am next in Wolves, I will certainly return.

Having stayed here a couple of years ago when the stay was great , I recommended this Hotel to 3 friends who travelled a long way for our Anniversary party.
however they were not impressed , under one of the beds was a bowl with ciggy ends in , for breakfast there was little choice and no where near enough croissants to go round , they were pretty full and only a few croissants , when asked for more there were none! also the bread that was left was apparently mouldy. Shame as I feel let down having recommended The york hotel.

TheYorkHotel, General Manager at York Hotel, responded to this review, 28 July 2014
Here at the York Hotel we take any negative feedback we receive very seriously. As a result of the aforementioned errors on our part we can only apologise and assure you that this is an anomaly in our normally highly praised service.

Please be assured that the correct actions have been taken for all parties concerned.

We have recently undergone a change in management structure; consequently, our focus has been to implement a better range and a better quality of services in the hotel, this includes a heightened focus on breakfast and housekeeping.

Subsequent to your feedback we now have appointed a housekeeping manager whose priority is to ensure nothing like this will happen again in the future.

These changes have already begun to manifest in our recent feedback and we are confident that this will continue in the future.

Although we cannot correct the mistakes we made whilst your friends took up residence with us, we can certainly attempt to make amends.

We would, of course, love the opportunity to make up for our errors at no cost to you and our recent guests. Whether you join us for an afternoon tea, or indeed take us up on the room offers contained in our letter of apology sent to you personally from our proprietor.

Our sincerest apologies and thank you for your honest feedback.

Kind regards,

Kiziah Wassell

Had my Baby shower at the York Hotel with Afternoon Tea and I must say I had a very enjoyable afternoon. Chris the gentleman working at the hotel couldn't do enough for us and accommodated all our needs. I had over 20 guests and the food and drinks was lovely and the room was of loveley ambiance. I would Defo recommend this hotel. Had a beautiful and enjoyable afternoon.

We enjoyed exclusive use of The York Hotel for our wedding reception.

So lovely to find a friendly hotel who would allow a small wedding party - 30 for the wedding breakfast and 120 for an evening party - on a Saturday in June.

Every wish was fulfilled by the hotel. Rooms decorated exactly to our liking. The staff could not have done more, and everything done in a calm, respectful manner.

The dinner and the buffet were outstanding ... and a bar service run efficiently and effectively.

The beautifully decorated and manicured courtyard at the back of the hotel is superb for photographs.

The hotel bedrooms were exceptional, with a good selection of double/twin/single and even an interconnecting room for families.

On the hotels recommendation we hired Kevin Round as our DJ from Heartbeat promotions, and what an excellent party he started!!

Also recommend The Coach House hair salon for wedding hair, and Steph at The Flower Shop in Codsall for flowers.

We married at Wombourne Registry Office which was 20 minutes from the hotel.

I have stayed in this hotel now for the past 3 weeks Monday to Friday whilst settling into the area. I cannot recommend enough. It is friendly, clean and warm but where else would you find a hotel staff that see you are too tired to even eat and so they make you sandwiches instead of breakfast to take to the office. Amazing people.

Room Tip: One room has not shower but does have a stunning roll top bath...

We hired this venue for a small private function this weekend. The service has been excellent from the moment we enquired in summer through to going through the menu and plan for the evening.
Each member of staff were aware of our booking every time we called in and and couldn't do enough to make sure that our requirements were met
The food on the night was excellent and the rooms were arranged beautifully
The staff helped to make our evening a memorable one. Thank you to you all!!
We would definitely recommend the York to anyone planning a special party or function
