“It's a pub with rooms”
Reviewed 24 September 2012

This review will be short and sweet. Basically this is a pub with plenty of rooms, The rooms, based on my room, are large but basic and dated. The small window in my room had a broken latch and wouldn't close properly.

The wifi is strange also. The WiFi available is the same as is available in the pub, so it has public access restrictions placed upon it and is slow. Not what you'd expect in a hotel room.

Food in the pub is excellent, but here's another quirk, you can't put food on your room tab. The pub and the hotel are two separate entities. Also, if you are late getting back the kitchen closes at 9pm. I got back at 10pm after 14 hours at work and wasn't best pleased to be told the kitchen was closed. Although, 10 out of 10 to the pub manager who got the chef to rustle something up for me.

I won't be going back.

Haven't stayed here for some time but decided to try it in ready for a day at Wimbledon Tennis. The rooms are much better having been renovated, colours are muted, bathroom had everything you would need. Breakfast was the usual continental fare, except for weekends when hot food is offered. Ate in the restaurant for two nights, also tried the Swan by the river (great views of the Thames) which was very good. Extensive wine list, each night the place was full which is a good sign. Not far from the Train Station which is handy. All in all a good place, handy for London and not far from the M25.

Room Tip: Room 105 which looks out to the front.

Kiwis on Tour
Stayed at Oatlands Chaser at Weybridge during our tour of the UK. Booked under the Innkeepers Inn on Booking.com which has no TripAdvisor reviews ??
Location and ambiance was great as was our room. Had to register for Internet which was a pain. Hotel systems were abysmal. Can only assume that the owners/operators are new...
Breakfast was disappointing with no cooked option on offer except weekends. All in all would recommend but don't expect too much....

Lovely little building, listed as an Innkeeper's Lodge, but you'd be hard pressed to identify it as such from the outside. Has the feel of a gastropub to it, unless you'd booked you'd be surprised there were rooms.
Room was nice, no iron or board in the room though.
Pros: Staff friendly, free iCloud internet throughout, was able to register on my smartphone at the same time as my laptop, very handy. Gets a star for that. Parking was plentiful and free too.
Con: food was pretty bad, scrambled 'eggs' grown in a vat, no option to have something cooked from fresh.

We read some bad reviews and were hesitant about staying at the Oatlands Chaser, but we found it to be a good experience. We stayed for three nights in February and got a very good Winter/Spring Special rate. The hotel is old but rather charming. The bedroom and the bathroom were very clean. Towels were replaced every day and the towels and linens were clean. It was quiet at night. The continental breakfast had a wide variety of items. I would definitely stay there again.

Having stayed at many of these lodges at London Colney, Queensferry, Canterbury, Chester and Exeter. I have never experienced such dirty conditions in the room, restaurant and public areas as at the OATLANDS CHASER in Weybridge. The room and bathroom facilities were dirty. The room furniture, fittings, curtains etc were covered in dust, with fragments of waste paper etc on the floor.
The side draws of the bedroom furniture contained discarded rubbish and empty beer/drinks glasses. The hospitality in the room consisted of two dirty and cracked coffee mugs. The mugs on all three nights contained dried coffee and tea, so we had to clean them before use.
The toilet had blood and urine stains splattered on the underside of the toilet seat and lid. The room heating was set at high so we had to have the windows open to moderate the room temperature. The room we were allocated was above the kitchen, so our day started and ended with opening and closing of the kitchen. The noise was enhanced because we had to have the windows open. The general condition of the room did not justify the nightly fee charged.
We visited the restaurant two out of the three nights. We had a weekend deal (three for the price of two). The glasses from the bar on both occasions had full mouth lipstick impressions. When I returned the soiled glasses to the bar, the bar man on the second night simply poured the drink from the dirty glass to another glass.
The floor in the restaurant contained discarded food from previous visitors. The whole experience was unbearable. On the second night’s visit, our third night at this lodge, after experiencing the second dirty glass, my appetite had gone. My wife however did order, the all day Sunday roast which was not as described.
The breakfast settings contained dried food from the previous night’s service. Dried custard was clearly visible on several cereal bowls. There was a lack of undamaged coffee mugs. The food selection was cereal or brown bread.
Whilst having our complimentary breakfast in the allocated area, I noticed that the seating and curtains were splattered in food and liquid spillages of an indescribable nature.
I finally complained on the evening of the third night, enough was enough; I could take no more of this dirt. I complained to the waitress, who located the duty manager, I showed him the condition of our room (room: 103) and bathroom, especially the soiled toilet seat.
I was first offered a free coffee, then desert in the restaurant, and then a meal, finally out of desperation he refunded me £72, from my paid bill of £141.
I have been fortunate to have extensively travelled the world. I have never attempted to write a complaint of this nature. My expectations of Weybridge was that due to the nightly rate of £69-£72, I would receive a better than expected level of service, comfort and above all cleanliness.
Neither of the above was received, I will not be returning to this Inn Keepers Lodge. I do, however recommend the one at Canterbury and Queensferry. London Colney, nice location, poor restaurant service, and don’t order any wine that comes in a bottle with a cork, as they don’t have a cork screw, bring your own corkscrew!
